Centre of Excellence In Computational Engineering & Networking

Centre of Excellence In Computational Engineering & Networking ( CEN ), which functions in the main campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham located in the serene and picturesque Western Ghats valley in Ettimadai, Coimbatore, will play an important role for the future of the scientific discovery process and engineering design. The CEN labs are currently conducting research in many innovative areas of engineering, working towards developing by May 2004: a massively parallel Partial Differential Equation (PDE) solver; a massively parallel design and analysis platform for flow visualization and fluid dynamics; reliable truss topology optimizer ; setting up a full fledged Bio informatics lab. Amrita Research labs (ARL)

is the dedicated Research & Development arm of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. It is a platform for engaging in collaborative R&D work by groups of faculty members and students. ARL recently unveiled Amrita VPN (Virtual Private Network), a new, easy-to-use networking software which allows users to connect their home, office, and laptop onto a single network. The same institution recently hosted a National Workshop on Information Security and Cryptography, and is on the cusp of releasing Amrita TutGen, an open source web tutorial generator. ARL also has plans to conduct research on using Sanskrit for Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing.

The ARL team works in a unique environment that is the confluence of creative talent, rigorous scientific temperament, and the vibrant ambience of our parent organization engaged in multitude of charitable activities aimed at uplifting the life and spirit of common person. Centre of Excellence in Information Security

ARLs leading edge research in a number of technologies over the past few years has been receiving increasing attention from the industrial, research, and academic institutions in India and abroad.



This is reflected in the increasing number of associations and collaborations the Lab has entered in the recent past.

In a world where traditional sciences are fast losing their separate identities, ARL actively engages in inter-disciplinary exploratory research involving computing, communications, and electronics (including medical electronics) thereby developing innovative technolgoies.

ARL also makes regular contributions to the academic community by regularly conducting classes and workshops on critical topics and emerging technolgies such as Open Source tools and software, Linux OS, Information Security and Cryptography. More»


Centre for Biotechnology

The Centre will aim at advancing socially relevant scientific research, generate affordable preventive and therapeutic innovations, to stimulate industrial growth and improve the human condition.

Recently the Government of India recognized the Amrita Centre for Biotechnology as a National Center of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Biomedical Technology. An eminent band of global researchers constitute a core team at the Biotech research facility at Amritapuri. More»

The Centre for Excellence Wireless Sensor Networks contributes to the development of new and innovative

Major focus is on the security issues of wireless networks. The Department of Science and technology has approved a research project on Security in Ubiquitous Wireless networks. The Centre is publishing its security architecture in a workshop on Software Architectures at Bangalore. More»


Centre for Telemedicine

Telemedicine reduced to its simplest form is connecting geographically separate health care facilities via telecommunications, video, and information systems. It is the use of telecommunications technology to provide, enhance, or expedite health care services, as by accessing off-site databases, linking clinics or physicians' offices to central hospitals, or transmitting x-rays or other diagnostic images for examination at another site.

ARL has developed an integrated telemedicine solution-Amrita Telemedicine, for linking various clinics and hospitals located in the remote areas of Kerala with Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS), Cochin.More»


Amrita-ISRO Centre of Excellence in E-Learning

15 May 2004: Higher education at Amrita entered a new dimension with the ISRO satellite network connecting the 4 campuses in 3 states. The satellite network was launched by Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi Devi and Padmabhushan Dr. Madhavan Nair, Chairman of ISRO.


On 7 July, 2004 : a state-of-the-art E-learning centre was launched by Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of the Indian IT major, Infosys Technologies.

Traditional teaching methodologies enhanced with the latest e-learning practices…Education across geographical barriers becomes a reality.Regular expert lectures by the pioneers in the field…Amrita University has ambitious plans of immediately offering various courses between campuses. Centre for Environmental Studies
The Center for Environmental Sciences of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has secured a research project from National Medicinal Plants Board of Government of India for the Amritapuri and Coimbatore campuses. Dr. M. Aravindakshan, Coordinator of the Center for Environmental Sciences is the Principal Investigator (PI) at Ettimadai and Brahmachari Prasanth is the PI at Amritapuri campus.
