MTech Molecular Medicine
Molecular medicine is the study of molecular and cellular phenomena in biological systems that enhances our understanding of human diseases and facilitates discovery research in disease prevention, diagnosis and therapy. The major objective of this program is to expose the students to basic and applied aspects of molecular medicine and train a new generation of young scientists for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research in this area including molecular diagnostics.
We will use a combined approach involving lectures, journal discussions, oral presentations and exposure to research. During the curriculum, each student will be encouraged to appreciate the importance of research in science, including not only practical knowledge but also the ability to think and articulate new and bold research ideas. They will be encouraged to do literature reviews and critically review methodology including scientific journal reports that may help to solve a research problem. Students who enroll in this program will be required to attend theory classes and problem-solving practicals. They will appear for an internal examination in the middle of each semester and a final examination at the end of each semester.Initially, we plan to recruit 10 students per year.
Successful candidates will have an opportunity to pursue their Ph.D. dissertation at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.
Structure of the Program
The M.Tech. program consists of four semesters spanning two academic years, with fifteen core courses, three practical laboratory courses, one seminar to be presented for credit, one minor project, and a major dissertation project.
A total of 64 credits will have to be earned to qualify for the M.Tech. degree in Molecular Medicine.
