The students of UG and PG batches were enlightened by a series of lectures on Indian values and culture by Prof. Vijay Menon, the Eminent Management Consultant, Faculty of I.I.M. , Indore and also the youngest faculty in the Civil Services Officers Training Academy and Legal Services Officers Training School. He emphasized about the higher reality in life which should be equally focused along with education and life-making. He cited instances of great leadership from Swami Vivekanandaandrsquo;s life. Prof. Menon, an ardent exponent of Vivekananda teachings, motivated the students to become vegetarians so as to be compassionate towards our fellow beings of nature.
Under the guidance of Prof. Vijay Menon a group named Samskriti started at the campus on 9th September 2009. About 200 students from both UG and PG batches constitutes the core group of Samskriti volunteers. The group aims at practising ethical values and serving the fellow beings inspired by teachings from all Mahatmas like Amma. Selected students from the group were trained in Amritapuri to learn self- help activities like recycling waste, doll making, fancy item making, stiching and embroidery etc. Money they received from these products are being used purely for helping the orphan children at Ammaandrsquo;s Tribal Orphanage at Parippaly, Matruchaya and visit other places like Goshala, Cancer centres, Pain and Palliative Care Centres etc. Students do this during their spare time.
Collaborative work with Amrita Sanjeevani, the Cultural group at Amritapuri campus provides a broadened activity spectrum with seven branches serving the needs of Environmental Clealiness (Arpan), Caring for Nature (Harithamitra), Handicrafts and Recycling (Vismaya), Creating Social Awareness (Sameeksha), Arranging Devotional Singing (Laya), Arranging Talks of Wisdom (Acharya) and Meeting and Serving the Needy (Maithri).
