ASB ALUMNI MEET

Reminiscences : Dhruv

About early days at campus:
When I joined college, I had lot of expectations. But then walking in after working for a year, I felt I should start looking things in a different way. I used to look at things the corporate way. My campus was my office and my faculties, my Bosses. Then it became easy to cope up with the so-called restrictions on timings etc. this experience made me learn to plan things in advance based on priorities.

About life at ASB:
Life was always fun at campus with those last minute assignment submissions, presentations, reports and what not. We were basically running out on time and the learning I had at the campus to cope up with time, is now helping me in my work life. Initially I used to feel that everything was just a problem. But then one day in one of the colloquiums I remember one gentleman saying, there’s never a problem in life, if it is looked at as a challenge. I still remember the walk to the classes in the mornings, passing through the mist during winter, watching the mountains covered with clouds and the gentle breeze with the slightest of the rain drizzle without an umbrella. Not to forget the long walk back to the hostel passing through the Saraswati statue and sitting there for some time and gazing at the stars. It’s like those were the days.

About student faculty relationship:
There is a lot of learning apart from the books. At every step there is learning. We have our beloved faculty with rich experiences in their respective fields. Interaction with them used to make me feel so rich with knowledge and it was never a kind of student faculty relationship between us. It used to be so friendly; I mean we all felt a part of the family. I still do remember the Diwali celebrations along with my mentor (Prof. Kulkarni) and his family and the farewell dinner hosted by Prof. Deepak Gupta and Prof. Shobana Madhavan.

Learning experiences:
Not to forget the experiences we had serving people when AMMA used to come to Coimbatore and also when we had been to Vallikav ashram. It gave me a sense of satisfaction. Being at AMRITA also gave me an opportunity to go to Nagapatinam for 4 days to help in the Tsunami relief activities. Activities like making food, distributing it across centers, serving it, helping in construction activities and what not. Of them the most important was talking to people who were affected.

Mothers who had seen their children fall from their shoulders and drowning, a son seeing his mother being carried away by the waves. Kids running behind us when we used to bring food and milk for them. This reminds me of my first week of college where I was not comfortable with food and I used to crib about it. I still cannot forget a young girl (aged say 3) who was so badly affected mentally by the trauma of loosing her brother. She had not eaten nor showed any emotion for days. But my friends and me made an attempt to make her smile and react to the situation and make her eat some thing. She finally did react with a smile and had the biscuit we had to offer. This experience at Nagapatinam was some thing, which no one would learn in the classroom or books. I feel so proud of my faculties (Dr. P. Balasubramaniam & Dr. E. Meera) who are still involved in the rehabilitation work. Also there were learning’s when attended events like CII’s – Managemantra, AIMA – INFOSYS strategic management game and other events.

About how it feels to be back Coming back to college for convocation gives me a great feeling. With just a few hours in hand so many people to meet and so much to recall. I wish there was more time.
