Food for Placements
“You are functional parachutes. You are useful only when you have an open mind”
This statement of Ms. Madhuri Menon, CEO, Amaya Management Consultants, conveys the clear message of what a company is looking for from us management graduates and what we require to be recruited into a company. A modest and humble lady, she took us through the journey of our placements in a simple fashion that reflected her personal experiences in the corporate world.
She began her talk by saying that we have lived a cocooned life as MBA students and it is now time for us to face the real world. She said that the value based education provided to us has taught us to channel our thoughts in the right direction and the ball is now in our court to prove our talents in the business world. She enlightened us on a few dos and don’ts regarding GDs and interviews and also gave us a brief glimpse of what the HR personnel of the company expect from us during the interviews.
She provided us with some useful insights into the whole selection procedure of GDs and interviews and said that our CVs, no matter how professional they were, were only the virtual interaction with the company. The interviewer then tries to look for certain inabilities of the interviewee, which are not visible in the CV, during the interview. She also emphasized on the need to be well groomed for the interview and be careful while handling the questions put forth to us. She emphasized on the fact that lack of knowledge of certain areas or subjects were appreciated than an attempt to talk on a topic we are not aware of. She also said that it would be a good idea to do some groundwork on the company and its processes, which will give the interviewer the impression that the candidate is genuinely interested in the company and its activities.
After a brief Q&A session, she concluded by saying “going with an empty cup to the organization, helps us make the best out of the organization”.
