“ Pride in Nation, Passion For Education“
Dr. Maresi Nerad was the speaker of the day at ASB. She studied as a foreign exchange student in different parts of the world, so she got exposed to a lot of different cultures and got to know about the enormity of the traditions of the different parts of the world.
She started her speech based on the question, ’ Why MBA’? Based on the varied answers her next question was ‘How career and family life could be balanced, how after an MBA can we manage the pressures of the job and the family? She gave us a piece of her mind in the form of what she said:-
She asked us not to lose our identity and to make attempts to know our own culture.
To think and act according to long term gains and not short term profit
To think locally and act globally and to think globally and to act locally
And all the opportunities should be chosen wisely and at the right time.
She specially emphasized the importance of India in the global arena at present. She rightly highlighted the unique feature of ‘our country’, ‘unity in diversity’. We in India have multiple cultures, religions, languages and we still excel in progressing coherently, and other salient features include: -
Advantage of being a democratic nation unlike China
An asset of a young and dynamic population
Rich traditions, values and cultures
Immense sea of knowledge
Back up of strong family bonds.
But there are few facts to be taken care of:-
- Due to the huge population, there exists a big gap between the rich and the poor.
- There exists a need to address the prevalent communal tensions
- The infrastructure is weak
- At times the prominent family bonds can be deterrent towards success.
In a nut shell, we need to amalgamate our heritage with the immense knowledge and out shine others.
“The world is waiting for us”
