COLLOQUIA

Mr. Pravin Shekar

On 30 August 2007, Amrita School of Business(ASB) organised a colloquia meet presided by Mr. Pravin Shekar, who is the Chief Executive of Dexterity KPO Services (MRKPO). He has founded Dexterity Business Analysts, MRKPO, Survey Helpline and “The Social Catalyst”, a social-marketing organization. His current focus is on the need to have “Integrated-Technology” solutions ready in time for the electronic convergence wave. Prior to his current capacity at Dexterity, he has handled assignments for IMS Health, Dun&Bradstreet & ACNielsen. He is an associate member of the European Society for Opinion and Market Research (ESOMAR) and the Council of American Research Organizations (CASRO).

At ASB, he first conducted an interactive session on “Anonymity of KPO – Mumbo Jumbo” and then a workshop on “Research & Analysis, a mark – Strat Exercise”. He started off with his quote “I can! I will!” by inspiring the minds of the students. He defined ‘entrepreneur’ as the state of mind where one is open and more receptive to ideas. He then spoke on Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), which requires the use of our skills and the knowledge stored in the brain to come up with the apt solutions for the corresponding problems. In Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), only a particular part of the business process is outsourced. But in Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), all the data of a company which are documented by a third party company is outsourced. KPO includes data mining, retail analysis etc. It is a black box. It involves brain power to analyse what algorithms are to be developed, adopted and implemented. All good managers should know how to catch the right wave at the right time. KPO is nothing but a new coinage of the existing thing called BPO. KPO uses software either as products or solutions.

Data mining is the process of converting the data to knowledge and then to wisdom. So, KPO uses this wisdom to bloom up with positive solutions for the various problems. KPO includes data collection and entry, analysis and analytics and data reporting. Analysis includes data validation, comparison of sales etc and can be controlled by programs, macros and software. Analytic means the data are processed and wisdom is applied to form patterns that can be used for taking managerial decisions. The results of the analytic are given to the customers for satisfaction in the form of reports. These data reports can be replicated, reproduced and automated. These reports are then outsourced or off-shored. He introduced the students to finer details of KPO and finally wrapped up the session by throwing light on the opportunities that the student folks would have in KPO, thus boosting the young and successful managers of tomorrow to look at a new dimension of the corporate world.
