On October 27, 2005 a colloquium was organised by the colloquium committee where the guest was Mr.H P Kripesh –General Manager Human Resource Pantaloons, Mumbai.Mr. H. P. Kripesh is an eminent personality from retail industry.
The colloquium was very informative at the same time interesting. Fewer people have the ability to make presentations appealing and Mr. Kripesh is one of them. By his innovative style of communication as well as informative slide presentation, he made us think of a career in retail management.
Mr.Kripesh’s presentation had a story and the story implicitly had very useful informations to share, which includes:
I) Retailing is the biggest industry with a sale of $6.6 trillion,
2) Every 10th billionaire in the world is a retailer,
3) 25 of the top 50 Fortune 500 Company are in the retail industry
He also gave the present scenario of India.
India has 10 million retail stores. The most positive aspect of retail growth in India is that it has the second biggest market.
Pantaloons main objective is to provide to the ordinary what only the rich could afford. Pantaloons has a retail space of 15 lac square feet. The total number of stores owned by Pantaloons Retail Industry are 23(Pantaloons -16, Bigbazar-17).
Apart from such valuable informations, he also gave us an idea of the career growth in Pantaloons starting as a trainee, sales executive, and store manager to Chief Operation officer. He also assured final placements for the passing batch of 2006 with a salary of Rs 3 lac p.a. A word of mouth about the summer placements for the first years was also mentioned.
On the whole the colloquium was really a grand success with Mr.Kripesh’s vibrant presence and positive attitude shown with regard to placements. In future we hope we will have with us such efficient,down to earth personality like Mr. Kripesh. |
