“Experiences are shared so that you can relate yourself to them”, with this wonderful statement Mr. Ranjit Nambiar VP of ARMS Pvt Ltd. started the talk on his life experiences. He asked us basic questions like what makes people go through these experiences? How would you react if you were put in some one else’s shoes? It is important to look back in one’s life to check up if one is heading where one wants to, rectifications, if required in the pattern of life have to be made early. For this he gave an example from his own life, he once wanted to be a cardiologist… but life took a different turn and he ended up becoming an engineer, and today the VP of ARMS Pvt Ltd. Though he has no regrets for what he is today, he did suggest that one must always keep track of where one is heading in life… especially if one has set goals for oneself…” Learn from your past, application of your learning’s make you better”
UPGRADE YOURSELF he kept stressing on these 2 words through out the talk. In order to remain competitive in today’s job market, its not good enough to be specialized in one’s area alone, what is required today is an all round knowledge of everything happening around you. So what is the challenge we face today? It’s how do we equip ourselves in this continuously changing world, well its UPGRADE again… practice and practice whatever you read, and whatever you learn, you have to be ahead of the opportunities. An important component in your growth is feedback. Therefore always ask a person around you as to how you perform… it’s the best way to grow.
He went on to remind us something that is so obvious but which we all seem to have forgotten, the deep-rooted spirituality is the essence of our culture and is also our greatest strength. He also talked about our population, which is our asset. Today 75% of the population is below the age of 35, our challenge therefore is to give them the necessary skills so that in future they can contribute in the growth of the economy. Also people falling in the age group of 25-40 years are facing high-pressure levels, and this in turn is increasing the rate of job turnover in companies. Therefore another priority of ours is to make sure we join an organization which we want to, which can bring out the best in us, and satisfy us, and not one which would just give a good paycheck…
As a manager he asked us to make customers our salesmen. Customer’s viewpoint is most important, feedback from them is very useful; they feel great when asked for an opinion and become customers for life. They then take up ownership by becoming your salesmen. The challenge then is how we make customers take up ownership .One way is to make them believe that they are important and so is their viewpoint.
“Re-look at negatives in life and convert them to positives” these were his departing words…and this is what we all decided to do once we left the hall that day….
