And breathe out stress. . .
Swamini Lakshmi Ananda, disciple of Swami Venkatesananda (Shivananda Ashram), is on campus and as usual, ASB’s faculty did not miss to bring her to college for the benefit of all.
Swamini Laskhmi Ananda has been teaching yoga in Perth, Australia, since 1963. Her simplicity and experience speaks for itself. She is conducting a two days workshop (7th and 8th of Nov) on “Techniques for Stress Relief”. The first workshop which took place yesterday was attended by students inspite of ongoing midterm exams. She taught us some very good breathing techniques to relieve stress which are easy to do and can be done anywhere, any time.
“Watch your breath . . .” Breathe! When we are stressed, we may notice that we hold our breath or breathe more quickly than normal. Both are natural, involuntary responses to stress that add to its harmful effects. These stress relief exercises taught by Swamini Lakshmi Ananda, don't involve movement but involve both mind and
body and deep breathing in and exhaling out in twice the time took for breathing in. Concentrating on our breathing helps to take our mind off of whatever is troubling us at the moment, allowing our mind and body to relax. This is very effective and yesterday we almost attained the state of meditation within a few minutes… I could not believe it’s so easy to meditate. It even becomes a great experience when you have it with all your like minded friends, peers and faculties. Thank you, Swami Lakshmi!
Today is the second day of the workshop and I don’t want to miss it… so catch you later…
