Many of the first years, after their orientation, still have nightmares, where balance sheets and profit and loss accounts haunt them. The second years on the other hand are preoccupied, worrying about the possible terrifying questions the faculty might shoot at them during their summer project presentations. But the trip to Thirumurthy waterfalls switched all our worries off. The ASB family from ‘Planet Ettimadai’ redefined fun, as we sang and danced like children the whole day. Deepak Sir and his camera were busy capturing the priceless moments we shared. Easwar sir was the first to jump into the water, and many followed his lead. Some preferred boating, others played football and a few sat back on the banks and enjoyed the beauty and grandeur of the place.
Thirumurthy waterfalls, is about 90 km from Coimbatore. The Thirumurthy temple, at the foot of the Thirumurthy hills, is very popular. After having lunch at the temple mandapa, we walked up the hill, towards the falls. It was a 20 minute climb, which passed like five minutes. Luckily for us, the tourist population at the time was minimal. It was just us ASBians dancing and cheering under and around the waterfalls. The monkey population, however, was not negligible. These ancestors of ours were too keen in snatching away our belongings if we weren’t looking. The beauty in the gigantic rocks, the whispering wind, the singing waterfalls and the green clad hills around touched each and everyone. Juniors and seniors broke all ice and had fun together as one. The best part was when Dean Somanath sir and Udhaykumar sir joined us under the waterfalls. Even on the way back, the energy levels were as high as they were in the morning. The buses erupted with anthaksharis and cheers. When we got back, many of us were tired out physically, but everyone wore a smile on their face their eyes shone bright.
When the mind is relaxed, it’s more clear and productive. The trip rejuvenated us all, and now, we are all ready to begin the rigorous academic year that lies ahead. The fun we had, the wonderful moments we shared helped us to bond stronger and come much closer to one another.
