Planting Trees One Balmy Afternoon in Ettimadai

As the evening breeze caressed me, the dream that I had planted, years ago, in my heart witnessed efflorescence all over. Those moments of union of man and nature that brought in a sense of ecstasy, will be treasured in my inner soul.

Ever since I entered this nature-cradled campus, I have longed to be a child and blend with this Mother Nature forever. But how? How long? Don’t I have to go one day? A countless thought flowed in me. But at last nature gave me the best solution. Yes! If nothing else, I will at least live here forever in the form of a trees that I plant. Brimming with confidence inspired by these thoughts, I resorted to Prof. Uday Kumar to fulfill my dream. With a bit of apprehension but with a lot of hope, I asked him for permission to plant a tree. Though I just asked for a flower, I was blessed with a spring. He offered me an event capsuled with all the zeal of my friends. With a sea of enthusiasm coupled with the guidance of Dr. Aravindakshan (Sculptor of our picturesque campus) and with the expertise of Dr. Kannan, the tenth batch of ASB was etching a new episode in the history.

Dr. Aravindakshan and his team facilitated a huge plot at the foot of the mesmerizing mountain that stands at the background of our institution. Every student who was filled with the spirit of that noble occasion was provided with a Mahogony sapling to plant. In a few minutes, the initial segregation on the basis of roll number and batch dissolved into one whole team of environmentalists. Shedding all our selfishness and apprehensions without any expectations or complaints, all of us became one with the nature. The situation thrilled the faculty members (Shobhana Madam, Banerjee sir, Deepak Sir and Uday Kumar sir) and kindled their interests so much that they started the planting process with even more enthusiasm than us. This should surely have been a refreshing experience for the horticulturists and farmers who have been the hands behind the arrangement of the plot. These farmers and horticulturists did a wonderful deed by growing the seeds into samplings with utmost care.

Every glimpse of that elated moments will be embedded in our hearts forever.
