The corner stone of the pedagogy used in the academic programmes in Amrita School of Business is the Case Study method of learning. Case discussions are supplemented with guest lectures, seminars, workshops, games and role-plays. The case study method is used to develop problem solving and decision making skills by facilitating the application of theoretical concepts to real life situations. This methodology gives a great opportunity to innovate, to apply the theoretical concepts and to question even the fundamentals. A library which houses a huge knowledge repository, excellent computing facilities with 24 hours high speed net access to a plethora of databases and state-of-the-art e-learning support – all this makes education a truly innovative experience at Amrita. Moodle, the online open source e-learning platform used in-house is the central repository for all management relevant information, and the common platform for student discussion forums. First year courses, which are compulsory and common to all students provide basic conceptual knowledge and inculcate attitudes and
skills necessary for managerial effectiveness. Second year courses are mostly electives and go beyond honing the student’s basic analytical skills and helps in building an overall business perspective.
Once into the 4th trimester, a student has the choice of focusing on a specific area of Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Operations and Systems by taking courses focused in these areas, or a mix of courses offered in different areas. There are a wide variety of new and innovative courses offered – Managerial Value and Business Ethics, Business across Cultures, Business Process Management managing change, High Technology Product Marketing, Strategic Outsourcing, Strategic Sourcing and Corporate Quality etc. ASB has since its inception had a course on Self Awareness and Personal Growth to help students face life’s challenges headlong without losing perspective about what truly matters. This attention to personal development is ideally supplemented by the Corporate Theatre Workshop- a popular, powerful theatre based workshop in
team work and self-discovery that each new batch at ASB goes through. |
