Industrial Instrumentation
Published by: Springer Verlag- Berlin, 1999
Dr.T R Padmanabhan
Former Dean- Engineering
Amrita Vishwa vidyapeetham

Pneumatic, hydraulic and allied instrumentation schemes have given way to electronic schemes in recent years thanks to the rapid strides in electronics and allied areas. Principles, design and applications of such state-of-the-art instrumentation schemes form the subject matter of this book. Through representative examples, the basic building blocks of instrumentation schemes are identified and each of these building blocks discussed in terms of its design and interface characteristics. The common generic schemes synthesized with such building blocks are dealt with subsequently. This forms the scope of Part I. The focus in Part II is on application. Displacement and allied instrumentation, force and allied instrumentation and process instrumentation in terms of temperature, flow, pressure level and other common process variables are dealt with separately and exhaustively. Despite the diversity in the sensor principles and characteristics and the variety in the applications and their environments, it is possible judiciously to carve out broad areas of application for each type of sensor and the instrumentation built around it. The last chapter categorises instrumentation schemes according to their different levels of complexity. Specific practical examples - especially at involved complexity levels - are discussed in detail.  More »

Design Through VERILOG HDL
T. R. Padmanabhan, B. Bala Tripura Sundari

ISBN: 0-471-44148-1
Hardcover
472 pages
October 2003, Wiley-IEEE Press

List Price: US $79.95

A comprehensive resource on Verilog HDL for beginners and experts Large and complicated digital circuits can be incorporated into hardware by using Verilog, a hardware description language (HDL). A designer aspiring to master this versatile language must first become familiar with its constructs, practice their use in real applications, and apply them in combinations in order to be successful. Design Through Verilog HDL affords novices the opportunity to perform all of these tasks, while also offering seasoned professionals a comprehensive resource on this dynamic tool.

Describing a design using Verilog is only half the story: writing test-benches, testing a design for all its desired functions, and how identifying and removing the faults remain significant challenges. Design Through Verilog HDL addresses each of these issues concisely and effectively. The authors discuss constructs through illustrative examples that are tested with popular simulation packages, ensuring the subject matter remains practically relevant. Other important topics covered include:

Primitives
Gate and Net delays
Buffers
CMOS switches
State machine design

Further, the authors focus on illuminating the differences between gate level, data flow, and behavioral styles of Verilog, a critical distinction for designers. The book s final chapters deal with advanced topics such as timescales, parameters and related constructs, queues, and switch level design.

Each chapter concludes with exercises that both ensure readers have mastered the present material and stimulate readers to explore avenues of their own choosing. Written and assembled in a paced, logical manner, Design Through Verilog HDL provides professionals, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates with a one-of-a-kind resource. More »

Insight into Wavelets: From Theory to Practice

Dr.Soman K.P., Dr.Ramachandran K.I
Centre for Excelelnce in Computational Engineering& Networking
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, India.

Published by:
Prentice-Hall of India
Pages : 308
ISBN : 81-203-2650-4
Price : Rs. 250.00

The rapid growth of the theory of wavelets and their application in diverse areasranging from oil exploration to bioinformatics, and astrophysics-has made it imperative that engineers and scientists pursuing these areas have a working knowledge of wavelets. In the past few years, the study of wavelets and the exploration of the principles governing their behaviour have brought about sweeping changes in the disciplines of pure and applied mathematics and sciences.

Keeping this in mind, the authors have specifically written this comprehensive text to fulfill the curriculum requirements of a course on wavelets. It offers an introduction to wavelet analysis, in an easy-to-understand style, without mathematical rigour. Beginning with a description of the origin of wavelets and a discussion on the recent developments, the book moves on to explain the basic concepts in Fourier series, continuous wavelet transform, discrete wavelet transform, lifting scheme and applications of wavelets in image compression, signal denoising and computer graphics.

Intended primarily as a textbook for the postgraduate students of computer science, electrical/electronics and communication engineering, this book would also be useful for the practising engineers and researchers

Insight into Data Mining : From Theory and Practice
Dr. Soman K.P., Shyam Diwakar, V. Ajay

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatoe, Tamil Nadu

Published by:
Prentice-Hall of India
Pages : 420
ISBN : 81-203-2897-3
Price : Rs. 350.00

Data Mining is an emerging technology that has made its way into science, engineering, commerce and industry as many existing inference methods are obsolete for dealing with massive datasets that get accumulated in data warehouses.

This comprehensive and up-to-date text aims at providing the reader with sufficient information about data mining methods and algorithms so that they can make use of these methods for solving real-world problems. The authors have taken care to include most of the widely used methods in data mining with simple examples so as to make the text ideal for classroom learning. To make the theory more comprehensible to the students, many illustrations have been used, and this in turn explains how certain parameters of interest change as the algorithm proceeds.
