( From L-R : Sunitha Scharma, Padma Menon, Nivas V, Pranoy M, )

Kriya ’08, the technofest held at PSG, is an event that brews a technical spur in the minds of those who crave for Science and Technology. There were many events related to Science and Technology. One amongst them was- IDP (Industry Design Problems). It was an event, in which the participants were given a problem, usually faced in industries, and were asked to find a solution to it. From the numerous reports received, the best 12 teams were selected for the finals and te team from Amrita comprising of Pranoy M, Nivas V, Sunitha Scharma and Padma Menon, first year EEE students happened to be the only 'first year' amongst the 12 finalists.

They were given the problem statement- “How to provide equi-pressure water in multi- storeyed buildings”. They designed an electronic circuit to solve this problem. The judges were quite pleased with their presentation. They were also pleased, as they were the only first year students. They were given the prize for ‘Best Innovation’ with citation and a cash prize.

Pranoy , one of the members of the team is planning to pursue higher education in the US. Nivas, the heart and soul of the project, is a prodigy in himself. Padma plans to do her M.Tech in IISc and Sunitha wants to do her MBA in IIM..

Nivas says, “The competition was a good experience for us .This is the first time I’m leading a team. The team was brimming with excitement. They co-operated well. With exams the next day, they still agreed to come for the competition. They showed great commitment to the project. I am really proud of them. Wish to continue the good work in the future too”

Padma says, “This is the first time we attended a technofest. It was a great exposure for us. It felt very good to be one amongst the twelve finalists. It boosted our confidence and has been a good source of encouragement to us. We are all craving for more competitions to showcase our ideas and work better as a team.”

Sunitha says, “It was a wonderful experience. It gave us a better understanding of the various fields unfolded by Science. All the presentations were good. We were awed by their ideas and reports regarding technology. It was in fact ‘A learning experience’. We plan to incorporate better ideas and techniques in our forthcoming projects.”

Pranoy says, “Kriya was an experience to cherish for a long time. This was a good experience. Even though we didn’t manage to get an internship I was quite happy with the result, given the fact that it was the first time we were taking part in a competition after joining college. I hope this will improve the number of participants from amrita for future competitions.”
