Located at the Amritapuri Campus by the beautiful backwaters of Kerala, minutes away from the Arabian Sea, the Amrita WNA carries out research in the fields of wireless communications, mobile computing, sensor networks, embedded systems, signal processing and applications such as landslide detection, environmental monitoring, etc.

The Amrita WNA recently completed a wireless network development and deployment project that will be used to predict landslides in the hilly Munnar region of Northern Kerala. Amrita was one of eleven partners in the Indo-European WINSOC Consortium* that funded the project.

Amrita WNA is led by Dr. Maneesha Ramesh who obtained her PhD from Amrita University. Maneesha has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Kerala University and an MBA from Amrita University. She plays a leading role in fostering international collaborations for Amrita and has traveled extensively in the US and Europe, visiting universities and liaisoning with professors and research scientists.

* WINSOC is a Specific Targeted Research Project co-funded by the INFSO DG of the European Commission within the RTD activities of the Thematic Priority Information Society Technologies. WINSOC explores the possibility of developing a novel technology for Wireless Sensor Networks, that can achieve better efficiency as compared to conventional technologies in terms of cost, size and power consumption.
