Indo-US Initiatives
In 2005, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Amrita University and various US Universities, some of which are ranked among the best universities in the world.
As part of this MoU, Harvard, Purdue, State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Berkeley,
Michigan, Maryland, University of California, etc. agreed to work together for faculty and student exchange, collaborative programs, research and cross-continental projects.
As part of this initiative, centres of excellence have been set up and distinguished lectures by visiting scholars from abroad are regularly broadcast using EDUSAT to around 50 institutions and universities in the country.
Indo-European Initiatives
Amrita University completed a major European Commission funded project in Wireless Sensors Networks for landslide detection. This project was jointly undertaken by nine European Universities and research centres, Amrita and Antrix Corporation, the commercial wing of ISRO.
Amrita University also has joint research projects, collaborative programs and tie-ups with the University of Milan, University of Twente,
Technical University of Munich, University of Groningen, Uppsala University, etc.
Extensive faculty and student exchange programs are also instituted through the Erasmus Mundus initiative of the European Commission. Nearly a hundred students and faculty members from Amrita University have been deputed to various European universities in United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Bulgaria and Netherlands for academic and research assignments.
E-Learning Network Enables Virtual Campus
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has the unique distinction of being the nation's first-of-a-kind –- fully interactive, multi-disciplinary, multi-media enabled virtual campus without geographical limitations.
A satellite network links all campuses of Amrita University. Both educational and research-related activities are enabled through this network.
Classes are taught by experts from the West. The satellite network enables them to have real-time academic interactions with students, academicians and researchers through state-of-the-art e-learning studios at each campus. Students at all Amrita campuses attend courses conducted in other campuses as well.
