Why Amrita?    Several Students Explain ...

Aratrika Choudhury, Amrita School of Business

"One of the most crucial decisions of my life was to choose a college to do my MBA. And today I can boldly say that I took the right decision," says Arathrika Chaudary, a first-year MBA student. "This is one of those institutions which not only imparts excellent education but also helps you to become a more responsible human being. I chose Amrita because of what I had heard about it but now that I am here, I can say that there are so many compelling reasons for one to choose Amrita. The people here are really loving and caring and make you feel at home away from home. I belong to a different state, not Kerala, but I never feel that I am missing anything."

Ashwathy Nambiar C. K., Amrita School of Engineering

"My father had just passed away, so my mother wanted me to be in a very safe place. An additional factor that we found favorable at Amrita was the extra support and opportunities provided through placement support, seminar-based classes, the on-campus Technology Business Incubator (TBI) and several active student clubs. Also the people over here ... all those students from different states ...

Here, every two years our syllabus is revised. We are regularly informed about technical competitions such as IBM Great Mind Challenge (TGMC), Code for Freedom Contest or Google Summer of Code Contest, and we are encouraged to participate. Students who are interested in sports or cultural activities also get plenty of options. We are taught the latest technologies and can work on many projects.

I am away from home, but my mother can be sure that I am very safe. I may state that the semesters I have spent over here have broadened my vision of the world and of life, to a large extent."

Balagopal R., Amrita School of Arts & Sciences

"At the time when I was in the decision-making process regarding which university to choose, I did some extensive research by interacting with graduates and students from different institutions. Analyzing all the pros and cons of various educational institutions, I came to the conclusion that Amrita University offered the best facilities, more opportunities through tie-ups with foreign universities, possibility for higher studies and an impressive placement record; as well as the best exposure through talks, conferences and highly-qualified faculty.

I specially appreciate the friendly environment here on campus, where we get the needed support from faculty and management. Each student has a counselor and overall there is this wonderful feeling of being part of the big Amrita Family!"

Priyanka Pushkaran, Amrita School of Ayurveda

"I was very much interested in studying ayurveda and obtaining a BAMS (Bachelor or Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) degree. I preferred to join Amrita because of the high standard of education provided. When I first came here, academically I found it hard and there were many challenges, but the faculties helped me a lot. I take great pleasure in saying that friendly and supportive faculties are the most valuable assets of Amrita.

Various camps organized by the campus give us an exposure to the practical aspects. One thing that makes Amrita more special than other campuses, in my opinion, is the constant focus on improvement. New things are undertaken with the aim to provide the best education for students. The collaboration of the university with other universities adds a certain richness. I feel that by choosing Amrita, I have added great value to my career and made my future secure."

Ramakrishna, Amrita School of Engineering

" What I especially like about this place, is its cosmopolitan atmosphere. For instance, the University participates in many international academic collaboration programs and this opens up a lot of opportunities for us. First year students can attend classes in French, Japanese or German. I took German which, looking back, was a most enriching experience.

Due to the proximity to the Ashram, the international headquarters of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, it often happens that highly qualified international visitors come to the university to give an interesting talk or lecture. Just recently, for example, we had an American working for Boeing and a European working for Airbus, who were here together to deliver interesting lectures in our department about aircraft maintenance.

Since this is a young and dynamic university, students can usually count on management support for their ideas. For instance, at a Conference, I met a key member of the Society for Automotive Engineering (SAE). Back at Amritapuri I asked our Associate Dean, Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, if we could establish a student chapter of this Society on our campus. Not too long after that, in August 2009, SAE was formally established at Amritapuri."

Sooraj, Amrita School of Biotechnology and Department of Social Work

"I am a graduate of the Amrita School of Biotechnology. So I had already had a taste of Amritapuri Campus life. It always felt like a home for me. When I applied for admission to MSW program, the fact that the parent organization of the University, the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, had such a long and distinguished tradition of social work, became a key factor for me to choose to begin my career in this field here.

I have always been inspired by Amma's attitude of compassion and selfless service. The good reputation of the college in terms of standard of education, the quality of the teachers and the value-based education, were other important points, that influenced my decision."
