Dr. S. N. Sarbadhikari is presently Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, TIFAC-CORE in Biomedical Technology, Amritapuri, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. After completing MBBS from Calcutta University in 1989, he has done residency in General Internal Medicine and in Psychiatry. He has been awarded PhD, in Biomedical Engineering, on neural network aided analysis of electrophysiological signals in stress and exercise, from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, in 1995. He has delivered invited talks in a few national conferences and also abroad. He has also been a regular resource person at National Workshops on Medical Informatics, as a Visiting Faculty at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology. His research interests include electrophysiological investigations in different states of health and disease, application of e-Health, and also automated diagnostic decision support systems for various medical conditions.
He has been awarded "Shri Shyam Lal Saksena Memorial Award 2000-2001" from the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), for research in Biomedical Engineering. Presently he is the Associate Editor of the journal Indian Journal of Medical Informatics. As a member of the DOEACC Committee on Bioinformatics, he has been instrumental in designing and developing the syllabus on Medical Informatics for the proposed C-level (M. Tech. equivalent) Bioinformatics Course under the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India. He has written a book [In Press] entitled "A Short Introduction to Biomedical Engineering" and has also edited another book [Nova Science Publishers, Hauppauge, USA, 2005] entitled "Depression and Dementia: Progress in Brain Research, Clinical Applications and Future Trends".conducted by various Distributed Information Subcentres of DBT for Bioinformatics, all over India. He has written four guest editorials for the Journal of the Indian Medical Association. He is a life member of the Indian Medical Association, Indian Association of Medical Informatics and also of the Biomedical Engineering Society of India. Earlier he was an Assistant Professor in the School of Medical Science & Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Prior to that, he was attached to the Department of Physiology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, as an Assistant Professor in Biophysics.
