About the Center

The Amrita Center for Computational Engineering and Networking is highly committed to promoting quality research in various fields. Since its inception in May 2003, the Center has successfully completed seven major projects with funding from various agencies like ISRO, NPOL, DRDO, ADRIN and Ministry of IT.

The Center's current research focus is in the area of Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing. A massive translation project is underway which aims to develop tools to translate web content from English to various Indian languages. This will enable every child in India to access information in his or her own mother tongue. Research is also ongoing in speech translation.

Another research focus is the area of Computational Drug Discovery.

The Center is led by Dr. Soman who has several decades of research and teaching experience. Dr. Soman received his M.Tech. in Reliability Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, where he ranked first in his class. His Ph.D. in Reliability Engineering was also from IIT Kharagpur. His areas of research include Optimization, Data Mining, Signal and Image Processing, Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines, Cryptography and Bio-informatics. He has about 60 publications in national and international journals and conference proceedings to his credit and has conducted various technical workshops in India and abroad, including a series of workshops and summer schools in e-commerce, fractals, chaos, neural networks and wavelets for industry and academia.
