About us:
Wireless sensor networks are one of the first real world examples of
pervasive computing, the notion that small, smart, and cheap sensing and
computing devices will eventually permeate the environment. Researchers at
'The Center for Wireless Sensor Networks' are actively pursuing various
collaborative projects to gain expertise in the field. Major focus is on the
security aspect of Sensor Networks with significant innovations that have aided the progress.
The research team is currently working on a Secure Architecture for WSN to
provide reliable tracking of devices and data processing, considering the
operational constraints relating to tiny, inexpensive, low-memory and
low-power sensor devices. Also considered are the relevant aspects of time
sensitiveness, co-ordination, key distribution, addressing, etc., focusing
on applications like monitoring disaster areas, emergency response in
disaster recovery, target tracking, habitat monitoring, inventory management
and medical monitoring with bio-sensors. A Secure architecture for
ubiquitous wireless networks has already been published by the Centre to
handle issues of admission, authentication, authorization and control of
wireless devices in a Wi-Fi network.
Another major milestone in this direction is the
collaborative research initiated with the University of Applied Sciences,
Berne, Switzerland, specifically for bio-sensors. Other international
interactions include University of California, Riverside, USA where our
researchers have been sent for training to improve our expertise with adhoc
and sensor networks.
Various organizations have sponsored the establishing and development of the
Centre, which include Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government
of India, and Corporate giants Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Intel, TCS and
CISCO.
The Centre is conducting a session on “Wireless Biosensor
Networks” at the ICWN 2005 conference as part of the 2005
International Multiconference in Computer Science and Computer
Engineering to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 27-30, 2005.
