CONTEST RULES

The ACM ICPC 2006 Regional Contest is going to be held on December 16th & 17th, 2006 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore . Contestants will have a period of FIVE hours (8:00 AM to 1:00 PM IST on 17 th December 2006) in which to solve the EIGHT posed programming problems (all in English).

GENERAL RULES

•  Teams and their coaches are to remain separated from the beginning of the contest till the end of the contest.

•  Sealed package containing the contest problems and other instructions will be placed on the assigned desk.

•  Contestants are not to converse with anyone except members of their team and personnel designated by the organizing committee. Systems support staff may advise contestants on system-related problems such as explaining system error messages.

•  While the contest is scheduled for a particular time length (FIVE hours), the Chief Judge has the authority to alter the length of the contest in the event of unforeseen difficulties. Should the contest duration be altered, every attempt will be made to notify contestants in a timely and uniform manner.

•  A team may be disqualified by the Chief Judge for any activity that jeopardizes the contest such as dislodging extension cords, unauthorized modification of contest materials, or distracting behavior.

•  Continuous refreshments will be provided through out the contest period. So they cannot leave the contest room during the contest without permission from the room invigilator. From a single room, members of only one team can get out at a time for maximum 15 minutes. The contestants are not allowed to communicate with members of any other teams or coaches while they are outside the room.

•  Like ICPC World Finals a team can bring up to 25 pages of printed materials with them which should submitted at the registration desk and will available with the question package. The reference material may contain a language reference manual, printouts of the problem statement and solution for any practice problems you worked on, and any notes you or your coach may have created. You may also bring a language dictionary

•  Teams are not allowed to bring calculators or any machine-readable devices like CD, DVD, Pen-drive, IPOD, MP3/MP4 players, floppy disks etc. Adequate number of papers, pen/pencils etc will be provided.

CONTEST ENVIRONMENT AND RELATED RULES

•  Mooshak Software will be used as the contest management software which has a real time scoreboard.

•  EIGHT problems will be posed. So far as possible, problems will avoid dependence on detailed knowledge of a particular applications area or particular contest language.

•  Online help will be available for C, C++ and Java (C++ STL and Java Docs)

•  Solutions to problems submitted for judging are called runs. Each run is judged as accepted or rejected by a judge, and the team is notified of the results.

•  A contestant may submit a clarification request to judges. If the judges agree that an ambiguity or error exists, a clarification will be issued to all contestants.

•  Notification of accepted runs will be suspended at the last one hour of the contest time to keep the final results secret. A general announcement to that effect will be made during the contest. Notification of rejected runs will continue until the end of the contest.

•  With the help of the volunteers the contestants can have printouts of their codes for debugging purposes.

•  A separate room is allocated for all the coaches where they can view the scoreboard which shows the contest statistics. Computers with internet facility are also provided in the room.

•  The decision of the judges is final.

•  Only rule violations and misconduct by teams may be appealed. Only coaches may file an appeal. The decisions of judges in accepting or rejecting submissions are final - they are not grounds for appeal.

CAMPUS RULES

•  Smoking and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited inside the campus.

•  High quality vegetarian food will be provided. Teams are hereby requested not to bring non-vegetarian foodstuff inside the campus.

•  It is compulsory for every team member to wear the ACM ICPC 2006 T-Shirts (provided along with the kit), while appearing for the contest.

•  The contestants are expected to be punctual in reporting to the corresponding contest sites, for the practice sessions as well as the final contest. No time-extensions will be entertained.

•  Good conduct is expected out of the contestants, while interacting with staff and students of this institution as well as other institutions.
