World Telecommunications Day 2004
On the occasion of World Telecommunications Day on 17 May, 2004, a state-of-the art Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) telephone exchange of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) was commissioned at the Ettimadai campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Deemed University, where the Coimbatore center of IETE is hosted. World Telecommunications Day 2005
World Telecommunication Day 2005 was celebrated with great fanfare by the Coimbatore center on 17 May, 2005. These celebrations received good press coverage with news reporters coming in The Indian Express, Dinakaran, Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi etc.

Dr. T.R. Padmanabhan, Chairman spoke on “Wi_max – the latest networking technology” and Prof. K. Gangadharan, Hon Secretary spoke on the central theme for the World Telecom Day, “How to create an Equitable Information Society”.

World Telecommunications Day 2006
World Telecommunication Day 2005 was celebrated with great fanfare by the Coimbatore center at the Ettimadai, Coimbatore campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on 17 May, 2006. More than 100 members from the sub-center participated in the celebrations. This included faculty members from various engineering colleges and representatives from telecom industries in the region.

Dr. T.R. Padmanabhan, Chairman of the Coimbatore Sub-center welcomed the gathering. Dr. V. Radhakrishnan, Director-Engineering of Amrita University presided over the function. Prof. K. Gangadharan, Hon Secretary spoke on the central theme for the World Telecom Day, “Promoting Global Cybersecurity” . Dr.M. Jayakumar and Mr. Prashant R.Nair read the messages of the ITU and UN Secretary General respectively. There were active knowledge exchange and discussions among the participants. Prof. N. Ramanathan proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. B. Krishnakumar was the organizing secretary for the programme.
