  Faculty members selected for International Training Programme at Bangkok

Mr.V Rajasekhar and Ms.S.Vijayalakshmi, Lecturers from the Computer Science & Engineering Department at the School of Engineering, Ettimadai Campus got selected to attend the Asian OSS Training Program in Bangkok conducted by The Center for International Cooperation for Computerization with National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) Thailand.

  Amrita B.Tech & M.Sc Students bag University Ranks

Mr.Sanal K Narayanan, Mr.Karthik Shankar R and Mr.Ramanathan R of 2005 MSc batch bagged the 2nd, 4th and 8th ranks in the final year MSc examination conducted by Bharathiar University. Mr.Vignesh D of 2005 Batch secured First rank in B.Tech ( Production Engineering ) examination conducted by Anna University.

  World Telecommunication Day celebrated at Amrita Varsity

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Deemed University) Ettimadai, Coimbatore celebrated “World Telecommunication Day 2005” on 17 May, 2005. The theme for this year’s celebration was “How to create an equitable Information Society” and the celebration was organized under the auspices of Coimbatore center of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). Dr.T.R Padmanabhan, Dean-Engineering and Chairman of the Coimbatore center of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) spoke on “Latest Trends in Information and Communication Technology - Wi-Max”. Prof. K. Gangadharan, Chairman – Information Technology, Amrita and Honorary Secretary – IETE Coimbatore center enlightened the audience on the theme of World Telecommunication Day. IETE is the largest professional association in India with more than 50,000 members and it is a matter of great pride that the Coimbatore center is hosted at Amrita University.

 

  Faculty Achievements in International Arena
Brahmacharini Ratna Krishnamoorthy, Faculty, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri, presented a paper on "Controller Area Network as a Serial Communication Protocol" for an International conference of Circuits, Signals and Systems held at Clearwater Beach, Florida held from November 28th to December 02, 2004 . She also underwent industrial training at SYNTEST TECHNOLOGIES and AMD Sunnyvale, California, LSI Logic in Silicon Valley, ZEDION, San Jose,California, CADENCE training in San Jose State University.

Bri Ratna also visited and met professors in the following university campuses:

» Stanford University
» University of Maryland, near Washington DC
» Columbia University, New York.
She also attended the The Berkeley Research Symposium at the University of California, Berkeley on 9 and 10 January, 2005


  Amrita Varsity Students in all out Relief Operations in Tsunami Affected Areas
Students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Deemed University), Ettimadai, Coimbatore have been engaging in massive relief operations, since the Tsunami killer waves hit the coast of Tamil Nadu. The students have commenced relief work at Ervanoor, Kottilamedu, Karimbukattukuppom, Kovalam and other villages in the suburbs of Chennai. More»


  Dr. P. Nagabhushan to conduct an invited session in International Workshop on Document analysis at ISI Kolkata
Dr. P. Nagabhushan, Distinguished Professor, is conducting an invited session in International Workshop on Document analysis at ISI Kolkata from 8 to 11 March, 2005. A book published by Springer Verlag titled "Document Analysis" will be released for the conference. This book contains a chapter titled, "Automatic Text Generation From Pitman Shorthand Document" contributed by Dr. Nagabhushan.


  BARC and Amrita sign MOU on new Healthcare delivery Initiative.
Dr S Banerjee, Director Bhabha Atomic Research Center, and Dr P. Venkat Rangan , Vice Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam, signed a MoU for innovating Health care delivery at BARC hospital in Mumbai, and its dispensaries, in presence of Sampoojya Swamiji Poornamritananda Puri, General Secretary, Mata Amritanandamayi Math . This MoU will allow BARC to effectively mange and deliver Health care at a lower cost around the country, to its 80,000 members covered under the CHSS program. Dr Jaitley from the medical Division of BARC and Dr Apte from the Computer Division of BARC were present at the function held at Amritapuri, Kollam, Kerala. More»







  International Mathematics conference charges up the campus
Curtains went up for the International Conference on Discrete Mathematics and its Application here at the campus yesterday.

Dr V Jayaraman, Director, Earth Observation System (EOS), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), inaugurated the three-day conference at a function, held at the Amriteswari Hall. Speaking on ‘Remote Sensing- Mathematically Speaking’, Dr.Jayaraman explained how Mathematics served as the basis of all scientific operations. “Maths integrates Physics, Computer Science and other subjects.

Mathematical applications are the key to remote sensing,” he said. Answering the general question that arises in many minds, ‘Why should a developing country like India launch space programmes?” he said, it is mainly to improve the quality of the people.He added: “Our aim is to set goals of international standards and expectations for young students and faculty members.” Vice-Chancellor Dr P Venkat Rangan said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for students and faculty to interact with the best brains in Mathematics.” ( Excerpted from "Campus Beats" More on DMA2004»)

In a rare assembly of several prominent IT industries like HP, INTEL, TCS, CISCO and MICROSOFT, individual Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) were signed by these industries with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for the establishment of satellite-based Village Resource Centre (VRC) across the country.

 Amrita - ISRO Satellite-Based Education & Research Network Launched
The world-renowned spiritual leader, Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (AMMA) launched the “Amrita-ISRO- Cognizant Technology Solutions Satellite-Based Education & Research Network for the New Millennium” at Amritapuri, Kollam, Kerala on 15 May, 2004. This e-learning initiative, the first of its kind in the country, seamlessly connects the four Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campuses at Amritapuri, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Kochi via satellite. Padma Bhushan Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) inaugurated this path-breaking initiative from Amritapuri.   E-learning Studio launched at Amrita Varsity
Close on the heels of the launch of the Amrita – Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Satellite network by Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi Devi and Padmabhushan Dr. Madhavan Nair, Chairman of ISRO, a state-of-the-art E-learning Studio with 6 simultaneous synchronous LCD panels was launched at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Deemed University) Ettimadai campus on 7 July, 2004 by Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of the Indian IT major, Infosys Technologies. Mr. Bhaskar Narayan, Director, Satellite Communications, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was the distinguished guest of honor for the function. Dr. P.
