The M Tech in Nanoscience and Technology program started in the year 2012 with the intake of 20 students. The course is designed in such a way that students can explore in depth the application of nanotechnology to biomedical areas. The applications include new implant technologies, regenerative engineering, new nanomedicines to combat cancer and drug resistance, targeted medicines for treatment with reduced side effects, diagnostic technologies using nanomaterials etc. The course also covers indepth nanomaterials and their properties, nanosystems design, the physics and chemistry of nanomaterials and applications of nanotechnology to biomedical area including engineering scaffolds and engineering devices at the nanoscale for diagnostics and treatment. In order to understand the medical applications of nanotechnology, this program offers clinical exposure in one of the many operation theatres of the hospital. In short, this pioneering program aims to develop an all- round scientist and technologist with interdisciplinary specialization in nanotechnology, biotechnology and medical sciences.

Eligibility: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Zoology or B.Tech. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Electronics, Biomedical, Biotechnology, etc, or M.B.B.S.or B.D.S. or B.Pharm. with at least 60% marks (or equivalent).

Intake Capacity of Students:  20  

There will be common entrance exam in different centers: Kochi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi which is followed by interview for selecting students. GATE Scholars are exempted from the common entrance exam.

The Director of the Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine is Dr. Shantikumar V. Nair who received the prestigious 2011 National Research Award in Nanoscience and Technology from the Govt. of India and was a faculty at University of Massachusetts, USA, for 20 years.
