About Amrita

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, established under the guidance of Satguru Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, with its head quarters at Ettimadai, Coimbatore is one of the youngest educational institutions in India to have been granted the University status (a University under Section 3 of U.G.C Act). This status was conferred on it by the Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India after meticulous inspection by teams from UGC, AICTE and IMC (Indian Medical Council). Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is one of the very few universities to have a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary character, offering under graduate, post graduate and research programmes in fourteen disciplines including Arts and Science, Engineering, Management & Medicine. Amrita is the nation’s first multi-campus university interlinked via satellite facilitating E-learning that transcends limitations of time & space. The international advisory board and the academic council comprising eminent academicians and industry stalwarts guide Amrita in its efforts to achieve excellence in research and education. NAAC has accredited A Grade to Amrita University.

Amrita School of Engineering (ASE) Coimbatore,  is a grooming ground for the future engineering and IT professionals of the country. The campus is located in a sprawling 800 acre campus at Ettimadai, a serene village at the foothills of the Western Ghats,  20 km away from Coimbatore and 2 km from Ettimadai pirivu on the Coimbatore-Palakkad national highway.

Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Sciences

India is transforming and repositioning herself globally in her infrastructure, industries, environment, energy and economy. Chemical engineering is one of the disciplines leading and shaping this transformation at the forefront.

Chemical engineers play a vital role in such diverse industries such as petroleum and petrochemicals, energy, power generation including ultra mega power plants, coal-bed methane, combined gas cycle plants and nuclear power, defense, mining and minerals including steel and aluminum, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, nanotechnology, cement, fertilizers, textiles, leather, food and agro-based technologies, polymers, and environmental engineering. Chemical engineering is the broadest branch of engineering, training professionals to design, manufacture, operate and control processes of such diversity.

The department offer B.Tech., M.Tech., and PhD. Programmes. The UG and PG are excellently supported by laboratory facilities with modern equipments that promote a stimulating environment for experiment- based learning to hone the student's research skills. It simultaneously trains the students in specialized elective streams such as materials science, nanotechnology, pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals and petroleum refineries. With nearly 30% of the faculty with a PhD and 30% pursuing their PhD, the students get to learn from people who are well qualified an experienced.

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

The Department, established in 1994 has sufficient number of academic and support staff, committed to research and teaching, and well equipped laboratories and library, meeting the requirements of undergraduates, post graduates and research students.

Graduates and postgraduates of Electrical and Electronics Engineering will be able to take up challenging jobs in a wide range of industries and engage themselves in research and development.

The Department has Power electronics, Electric Machines and Control Systems, Electrical Measurements and Embedded Systems Laboratories in addition to Electrical Workshop. Each laboratory is equipped with instruments and equipments for teaching, learning and research.

Besides a B.Tech programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the Department offers M.Tech programmes in Power Electronics and Embedded Systems. Also there are two PG Diploma programmes on Wind Energy, offered under a MOU with center for Wind Energy Technology(under MNRE, New Delhi) and Indian Wind turbine Manufacturers Association.

Under MOU signed with KTH, Sweden, the M.Tech students are eligible to do course/project work at KTH in an exchange programme.

The Department has a few research projects sponsored by agencies like DST, AICTE and C-WET.
