sanskrit intensive

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, accredited with an A grade by NAAC (National Accreditation and Assessment Council), was started by the world famous humanitarian and spiritual leader, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. She is the Chancellor of the University as well as the inspiration for its rapid growth. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was the youngest among all educational institutions in India to be conferred the status of a university (under section 3 of UGC Act) in 2003. Today its vibrant, multi-campus and multi-discipline nature has made it one of India's leading universities. The University Headquarters is located in a serene village at the foothills of Western Ghats at Ettimadai, about 20km away from Coimbatore.

The university management is committed to creating and sustaining an ambience in the campus that is most conducive to learning. This can facilitate the full blossoming of the innate potential of students and the development of their personality. The multi-disciplinary character of the university facilitates synergy among different disciplines, enabling each to derive maximum benefit from the expertise of others. All this has made Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham a most sought after institution by students from all parts of the country and abroad. Amrita is today well on its way to becoming a world class institution of higher learning in several disciplines.

Campuses

The university currently has five campuses at Amritapuri, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi and Mysore. The university offers over 100 degree programs including bachelors, masters and doctoral in various disciplines including engineering, management and medicine. Thirteen thousand students are enrolled in its eighteen schools and are taught by a dedicated team of over fifteen hundred faculty members.

A Virtual Campus

Amrita has the unique distinction of being the nation's first-of-a-kind -- a fully interactive, multi-disciplinary, multi-media, virtual campus without geographical limitations. A satellite network links its campuses in different states of India. This has facilitated live academic interaction by leading experts from around the world not only with students, academicians and researchers at the different Amrita campuses but also those at many other educational institutions around the country.
