Sanskrit is the gateway to the world's vastest treasury of literature, history, philosophical thought and spiritual experience, but the study of Sanskrit need not be at all intimidating, dreary or mind-numbing. Our daily schedule comprises a variety of learning modes, and allows time for private study and review.

Daily Program Schedule:

Mata Amritanandamayi, also known as Amma, is in her Amritapuri Ashram several months during the year. Amritapuri is the international headquarters of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math and is the home for numerous monks and nuns as well as householder devotees, visiting international devotees and the students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham's Amritapuri Campus.

Amritapuri is located in a fishing village on the Arabian Sea. On one side of the village is the ocean and on the other side, the famed backwaters of Kerala. Stretched out for as far as the eye can see is an endless expanse of coconut palm trees.

It is important that international visitors and students understand and respect Indian culture and adapt themselves accordingly during their stay. The following are some guidelines to keep in mind:

Dress
Western wear such as tank tops, shorts and short skirts are offensive to local customs. It is advised that students wear modest clothing such as full skirts, long pants and loose clothing. Wearing Indian clothing such as churidar or salwar (for ladies) and kurta and dhoti (for men) is also appropriate.

Personal Conduct
Smoking is prohibited anywhere inside the ashram and on the college premises. Drinking and the use of non-prescribed drugs is strictly prohibited, and in addition, is counter-productive for this course. Men and women are also advised to respect the monastic tradition by not expressing affection for one another in public.
