Special guidance and encouragement is given to the students to write GATE, NET and IAS exams for their higher studies. Students are encouraged to take up the Integrated PhD / PhD programs in India and abroad.
Active research in almost all frontier areas of chemistry including advanced functional materials, organic synthesis, photochemistry, photovoltaics, electrochemical sensors, nanomaterials, computational chemistry, environmental science, catalysis, organometallics and polymer science and composites is going on in the department, some of them with intensive collaboration from universities and institutions from India and abroad. Faculty has publications in: Journal of American Chemical Society (ACS journal), Nature Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group journal), Accounts of Chemical Research (ACS journal), Physical Review B (American Physical Society journal), Chemical Communications (ACS journal), Organic Letters, Chemistry of Materials, Dalton Transactions (RSC journal), Organometallics (ACS journal), Inorganic Chemistry (ACS journal), Solid State Communications (Elsevier journal), Crystal Growth and Design (ACS journal), Tetrahedron (Elsevier), Chemistry- European Journal (Wiley), etc. Many of the faculty members of the department have very active research collaboration in various fields of chemical and allied sciences with several research groups from National and international Universities and research institutes like Colorado State University (USA), Rutgers University New Jersey (USA), University of Bologna (Italy), University of Milan (Italy), University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan (Italy), Council of National Research, Milan, (Italy), R&D Centre, Noritake, Aichi, (Japan), NCL(Pune), CSIR-NIIST, IIT (Hyderabad), IIT (Madras), IIT (Gandhinagar), IISER Thiruvananthapuram, IGCAR, Kalpakkam, etc., to name some of them.
At present the department has adequate infrastructure and instrumental facility but will be soon adding many sophisticated instruments through funded projects and also with possible support from DST, Govt. of India through FIST program. The University plans to make the department as a Centre of Excellence attracting some of the best students to carry out research in various frontier as well as emerging areas of chemistry.
All the Masters students are involved in both mini- and major-research projects and they will be able to publish at least one research paper each before they graduate. Our students are selected in to premier research institutes and universities in India and abroad (some of them securing attractive fellowships) like IITs at Mumbai, Chennai, Guhawti, CSIR Labs, CLRI, NCL, CICRI, JNCASR, Tokyo Metropolitan University, Monash University for short term internships and final year projects. Many of our student alumni are pursuing their higher studies in prestigious institutions in India and abroad.
