Suresh K. Lodha is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California Santa Cruz. He received an MSc (Mathematics Integrated with Engineering) from IIT, Kanpur in 1976, an MA (Mathematics) from University of California, Berkeley, in 1984 and a PhD in Computer Science from Rice University, Houston in 1992. He has published more than 100 articles in journals and conferences.
His research spans computer-aided geometric design, scientific data visualization, and computer vision incorporating machine learning techniques. He has collaborated with social scientists and a team of dedicated undergraduate and graduate students to design socio-economic visualizations – both static and interactive. He is a co-author of “The Atlas of Global Inequalities” and also a co-author of “The Atlas of California”. Currently, his research is focused towards data science – in curating, analyzing, and visualizing data for personal empowerment, public policy, and social change.
