    TWO Days National Conference on Data Science: Application, Analytics and Visualization

    22nd and 23rd March 2016


    Department of Computer Science and IT, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, jointly with CSI had organized TWO Days National Conference on Data Science: Application, Analytics and Visualization on 22nd and 23rd March 2016.Poojaniya Swamiji Poornamritandapuri, General Sceretary, Mata Amritanadamyi Math, blessed the occasion by lighting the lamp. Dr. U Krishnakumar, Director, ASAS, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Venkatramanan Pallasana Ramakrishnan, Lead Data Scientist, ThoughtWorks Technologies , Bangalore, inaugurated the workshop and handled a session on the topic Data science.Dr. M V Judy, HOD, Department of Computer Science, delivered vote of thanks.

    Second session was handled by Sudhir Rithi Srinivasachar, Associate Director, Cognizant Technologies Solutions, Bangalore. His discussion was on the topic Blueprint Implementation: Learning and Development in Data Science.

    Sujesh C , Development Specialist in Analytics Quality Squad, TCS, Kochi, delivered a session on the topics, Pipelining in Big Data, Functional Programming Tools like DevOPS, Scalar, Hadoop etc.

    On the second day of the conference, Dr. Gireeshkumar T, Associate professor, TIFAC CORE in Cyber Security, Amrita School of Engineering, Ettimadai and Dr. Gopakumar G, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology Calicut delivered a lecture on the topics Statistical Machine Learning for data analytics and Introduction to Big Data Analytics and Visualization.

    A Cultural program was organized by SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) and the highlight of the cultural program was a Carnatic music recital by Sri. M. K. Sankaran Namboothiri, Carnatic music vocalist and playback singer. He was accompanied by Edappally Ajith (Violinist), Sri. Jayakrishnan (Mridangam) and Sri Manjoor Unnikrishnan (Ghatam).

    Faculties and students from various universities participated in the conference and around 35 papers on various domains of Data Science were presented. Divya K S, Chikku Janardhanan and Yogitha A of 2014 BCA were felicitated on their receipt of awards instituted by the CSI Regional Student Level Convention at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore. Certificates were distributed to the participants at the Valedictory function.

    As part of CSI day celebrations on 6th March 2016, the Student Brach, Department of Computer Science and IT, Amrita School of Arts and Science conducted two major events: Technical paper presentation and Tech Skit. Around eleven papers were presented on the recent topics such as Honey encryption, 3D password, Eye Tracker, Project Loon, LiFi etc. Tech skit was based on topics like Routing, Stack & Queue, etc.


    TWO DAY NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON ANDROID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

    The Department of Computer Science and IT, Amrita School of Arts and Science in association with AMALGAM-IIT MADRAS 2016, hosted a TWO DAY NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON ANDROID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT at CS & IT Department LAB-1 on February 22nd and 23rd 2016. The session was handled by Mr. Rahul Yadhav, Design Engineer for ARK Technosolutions. More than seventy students from MCA and BCA, Staff and Students from other colleges attended the workshop. Ambily K P, Lecturer and Divya R, Lab Assistant, Dept. of Computer Science attended the workshop. All participants received certificates from ARK Technosolutions Mumbai in association with AMALGAM, IIT Chennai.


    A technical talk on “Internet of Things: Opportunities and Challenges"

    Nitha L, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and IT, attended a technical talk on “Internet of Things: Opportunities and Challenges” by Sri. Satish Babu, Chairman, ISOC-TRV at CSI Hall, Kochi on 12 February 2016. His lecture provided an overview of some of the emerging applications of IoT, and also posed some of the challenges that were likely to rise as we entered a world where computing becomes pervasive.


    ‘Prabhathi’ - General quiz program for differently abled

    The ‘Prabhathi’ general quiz program for differently abled children was organized as part of Computer Society of India (CSI) student branch activity at Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS), Kochi on February 18th, 2016. Around 450 CSI student members volunteered to organize the event and over 30 students were assigned to assist each school.

    Android For Prabhathi, a Corporate Social Responsibility event, around 150 differently abled students of various special schools across the city, accompanied by their parents and caretakers, participated in the quiz program. The quiz was divided into three categories-Junior, Senior and Super senior, based on the age of the participants. It consisted of three rounds based on topics like cartoons, films, sports etc.Bri. Anaghamrita Chaithanya inaugurated the Quiz Competition by lighting the lamp. Dr. U Krishnakumar, Director, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences welcomed the gathering and he conveyed that the main aim of the event was to give an opportunity for the differently abled students to exhibit their talents to the main stream. Sri.Purnamritanantapuri Swami blessed the valedictory function.

    prabhathiThe chief guest was Dr. Gitanjali Natarajan, head of the department of clinical psychology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi. Professor Santhosh Kumar from CUSAT who is the CSI secretary of the Cochin chapter was also present. All participants were awarded gifts, certificates and mementos, and each school was given fruit and flower saplings as a token of gratitude. The ASAS student branch, Samskriti the cultural forum also contributed generously towards the program.

Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) delivered the presidential address and a curtain raiser on ‘Interdisciplinary Research Forum’. The Interdisciplinary technical exhibition inaugurated by Sri. Satish Babu, President, InApp Information Technologies Technopark, Trivandrum and Dr. U Krishnakumar, Director, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, welcomed the gathering. A Panel discussion was arranged on the topic “Vision for Digital India” by the experts Sri.N.S. Ranganadhan, Sr. Consultant, WIPRO Technologies, Sri. Prashant R Nair, Vice Chairperson, Dept. of IT, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Prof. M. B. Santhosh Kumar, Professor, IT Dept., CUSAT and Secretary, CSI Kochi Chapter as the facilitator. Technical Sessions were convened by Ms. Mini Ulanat, Manager Systems, CUSAT (Former National Student Coordinator of CSI) on the topic “Role of CSI for Professional Growth” and Ms. Deena Venugopal, Co-Founder, Anabytes, Digital Branding Solutions, Kochi and Recipient of Young Entrepreneurship Award on the topic “Interdisciplinary Approach to Digital Marketing”.

    “Utbhavini”-a technical exhibition

    Sri. Satish Babu inaugurated “Utbhavini”, a technical exhibition organized by CSI Student Branch. The centre of attraction of the exhibition was a Robot assembled by 2015 M.Sc. CS(SNA) student. Other attractions were models of Turing Machines, Charles Babbage Calculator, IoT, etc. Students from Amrita Vidyalayam and other school visited the exhibition. 2015 BCA II Semester students performed a “Tech Mime” on the same day.

    CSI Student Branch, Kochi Chapter conducted a Technical Talk on Current Technologies on 18th September 2015. Students from MCA and BCA participated for the contest. Some of the major areas discussed are Hologram, CloudBerry, Secret Space Encryption and Java API in DTV devices. Vishnu Sanker M (2015 BCA) won the first prize and Sarath P (2014 MCA) won the Second Prize.

    Workshop on Android Application Development

    A One day Hands-on workshop on Android Application Development was conducted on 14th September 2015. The workshop was lead by Mr. Anil Kumar, Founder and CEO of ThinkForce Software Solutions. The workshop was an eye opener for the beginners. The workshop covered major sections of android environment and how to develop an application from the scratch. The session was highly interactive. Students of Computer Science and IT attended the workshop.

    In association with CSI, Kochi Chapter, a technical talk was organized by the Dept. of CS & IT on the topic “Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Solutions: Towards the goal of social inclusion” as part of the extra mural lecture series, Vidyamritam on 3rd September 2015. The session was handled by Mr.Vinod Nambiar, Associate Vice President at Advanced Software Systems. He discussed about Open Data, its key features and how to use Open data to promote innovative and democratic changes. Sri. T.Sreeprakash, Chairman, CSI, delivered an introductory session on the activities and vision of CSI. Prof. M B Santosh kumar, Secretary, CSI, concluded the session.

Professor, Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kochi, handled a session on "Internet of Things (IoT)" as a part of the extra mural lecture series, Vidyamritam on 3rd September 2015. The session revealed the basic concepts of IoT, which is the next evolution of Internet, Functional Components and Characteristics of IoT, IoT Application domain, application of Body Area Network (BAM) etc. 2014 BCA and 2015 BCA students attended the session.

The session was handled by Remesh Govind, Senior Architect and Project Manager for Real Consulting, Kochi. He discussed about the role of mobile apps and its opportunities. The session revealed about how MBaas helps web and mobile app developers to connect to the cloud storage.

The session was handled by Mr. Jayakrishnan K, Director, Xtend Technologies (P) Ltd. The session was highly enlightening and he discussed about Quantum mechanics, Quantum effects, representation using Qubits, Quantum entanglement and applications areas of Quantum Computing. All students of MCA and BCA attended the session.

    In association with CSI, Dept. of CS & IT, conducted an event on the topic “How professionals work & grow?” as part of the extra mural lecture series, Vidyamritam on 21st January 2015. The session was handled by Mrs. Mini Ulanat, Systems Manager of Cochin University of Science & Technology handled the session. She discussed about the importance of commitment towards work, prioritization, time management, technical empowerment & assertiveness in handling projects. She also conveyed the importance of becoming a member and volunteer of CSI and its various activities. The session concluded up with a question answer session. MCA, BCA and B.Com students attended the session.

    As part of Vidyamritam - the extra mural lecture series, Dept. of Computer Science and IT conducted a session on the topic “Computer Hardware and Architecture” by Mr. Madhusudan Gupta, Managing Director, RADHA ELECTRONICS Pvt. Ltd. on 17th November 2014. The session was highly informative as current technologies and specifications of hardware were discussed along with the architecture. First year MCA and BCA students attended the session.

    Department of Computer Science & IT, Amrita School of Arts and Science has organized Computer Society of India (CSI)'s State Student Convention [Kerala] (Region VII) on the theme “Empowering Villages through Emerging ICTS" on Thursday 30th October 2014. Bri. Bakthi Priyamrita Chaithanya, Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam did the Lamp Lighting & Dr. U. Krishnakumar, Director, delivered the Welcome address.

    The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. P. T. Mathew, Chief General Manager, Bharat Broadband Network Limited and felicitation was given by Sri. S. P. Soman, Regional Vice President (VII), Computer Society of India. Dr. M.V. Judy Head of the Department, (CS & IT) delivered the Vote of Thanks. A Panel Discussion on the theme was conducted. Experts on the discussion are Sri. V.T. Santhosh, General Manager, NICSI, National Informatics Centre (NIC), TVM, Sri. N.S. Ranganadhan, Competency Head, Wipro, Sri. P.R. Krishnanand, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) & the moderator was Prof. M.B. Santhosh Kumar, Professor and Head, Dept. of I.T., School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT ) (Secretary, CSI Cochin Chapter). All together 86 participants including students and faculties from various colleges inside and outside Kerala registered and participated for the one day convention.As part of the convention, few contests like ICT Quiz, Multimedia Contest [Poster Designing] & Web Designing are also conducted. The winners are awarded cash prizes and certificates.
