CSI Regional Student Convention (RSC) for Region 7

Mr. Satish Babu, President of CSI and President, InApp Technologies, Technopark, Trivandrum inaugurated the CSI Regional Student Convention (RSC) for Region 7 organized by the Computer Society of India (CSI) Coimbatore Chapter at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore on February 17, 2011. Android App Development

The CSI Student branch of Amrita School of Engineering conducted workshop on “Android App Development” between  October 20,  2016 and October 22, 2016. A brief introduction on "how to develop apps in Android”, introduction to the interface of the work environment and hands-on on small application development were covered.

Two Day Hands-On Workshop on Design of IoT Nodes

Organized by CSE department, IETE chapter and CSI student branch on  March 28- 29, 2016 Around 90 researchers and students participated. Contents of the workshop:

National Workshop On Computer Vision & Image Processing Techniques (2016)

Organized by CSE department and CSI student branch for two days on March 18-19, 2016. There were around 65 members participated in the workshop. The objective of this workshop was to provide an opportunity for participants from academic institutions and industries to understand the research avenues in the areas of Image processing, video processing, computational intelligence and evolutionary computing. The participants for the workshop were researchers, post graduate and undergraduate students working in this specialized area. Eminent scientists and engineers delivered special lectures, tutorials and workshops in this field of research. Workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B Gopala Krishna- Deputy Director of Data Processing, Products, Archival and Web Applications Area (DPPA & WAA) at NRSC, Hyderabad.

National Workshop on Biomedical Signal Acquisition and Conditioning

National workshop on Biomedical Signal Acquisition and Conditioning was organized by IETE and CSI student branches on  December 17-19, 2015. There were 44 faculty and researchers from premier universities. The main goal of the workshop was to provide the participants an insight to the various types of biomedical signals acquired, the causes and some of the possible solutions for the same. One day workshop was organized by CSE department and CSI student branch on December 14, 2015. Around 50 faculty and PG students from various colleges.Lead speaker was Dr.Prabath Singh, Professor and Head of the Department, Conservative dentistry & Endodontics, Amrita School of Dentistry, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences Super-specialty hospital, Kochi. Workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Prashant R.Nair, Vice-Chairman, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. National Workshop on Soft Computing Techniques

Two day national workshop on Soft Computing was organized by CSI student branch and IETE Coimbatore centre  July 17-18, 2015 There were 60 participants from Tamil Nadu and Kerala.The main objective of the workshop was to mentor faculty members to guide UG and PG students to apply the soft computing techniques in their project work. Workshop was inaugurated by Dr. (Col.) P.N. Kumar, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, CoimbatoreTopics covered included:

Short Term Training Programs

HackerRank programming environment Training programme

HackerRank programming environment Training programme was organized on October 27-28, 2015 at IT Lab I and II. The event was jointly organized by the CSI & ACM student branches and ASCII student association. In this competitive programming environment HackerRank, programming challenges can be solved in a variety of programming languages (including Java, C++, PHP, Python, SQL) and span multiple computer science domains. When a programmer submits a solution to a programming challenge, their submission is scored on the accuracy of their output and the execution time of their solution. Programmers are then ranked globally on the HackerRank leaderboard and earn badges based on their accomplishments to drive competition among users. It was organised by Vinuthna, Vandana, Srivathsan, Achai and Vignesh.

Training on Web Designing and Adobe Photoshop on September 9-10, 2015

DAY 1 - ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS6

The event was jointly organized by the CSI & ACM student branches and ASCII student association. Around 68 particpants participated in training programme. The first day of the training programme on Photoshop was explained with the very basic tools on how to get started. Effective use of tools such as lasso, select, patch and move were discussed. This was followed by other useful tools such as layers, effects, texts, colour mixtures, curves and temperature tones. A handson demo was depicted concurrently along with the explanations on how to edit a picture that was selected. After the demonstration of each tool and effects, the students had the same implemented on the systems. The additional extended product features of adobe photosho cs6 were also mentioned. It was conducted by Mr. Divya Tejapalli, Mr. Sarat Rahul, Miss Uma Sindhu,Mr. Abhishek , Miss Akshaya ,Mr. Deepak Naidu. Around 81 students attended the workshop.

DAY 2 - WEB DESIGNING

On the second day of workshop web designing using a tool called Dreamweaver was conducted. Web designing can be done in many ways but the most efficient way of designing a web page is using. Dreamweaver where in the advantage is that memorising the source codes are not necessary, only mentioning is to learn the basic tools and working out on it.

The 6th edition of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s annual national student technical festival, “ANOKHA 2015” was held from Februaru 18-20, 2016 at the Coimbatore campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. This has emerged as one of the best engineering festivals in India. More than 15,000 students from all over the country are expected to the attend the techfest, which has emerged as one of the top techfests in India. Anokha 2016 is the first and only techfest in India with United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) accreditation. The theme of the three-day fest is ‘Sustainably Developed Technopolis”, in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Prize money is a whopping Rs. 15 lakhs. ANOKHA 2015

ANOKHA 2014

Anokha 2014– The 4th edition of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s annual national student technical festival, ANOKHA 2014 was held from March 20-22, 2014 at the Coimbatore campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. This has emerged as one of the best engineering festivals in India. Over 7000 students attended from over 300 universities all over India.

CSI Student Branch organized the following technical events for the techfest:

  • PD3 – Product design and development
  • E-CRAZE - This event will test how far you can understand a given application and create a code for that same application with all the features in it
  • BUG ARENA - Debugging
  • TECHNO CRACK - an event consisting of series of rounds testing the participants of their lateral thinking skills, coding etc.
  • CODE HUNT - Are you a programmer? You think you think out of the box? Well here is your chance to prove it.

Anokha Techfest 2016

Anokha 2016, the sixth National level Tech-Fest of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, was held from the 18th to 20th February, 2016 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus. Anokha 2016 is the first techfest in India with United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) accreditation. The current year’s theme of the fest, "Sustainably Developed Technopolis", was in line with UN Sustainable Developed Goals (SDG).

It started with an inspirational inaugural ceremony which showcased the valuable insight of top industry professionals and distinguished academicians.

Competitions/ Contests for Student Members

Rival Revenge - Gaming Contest

Computer Society of India - Student Branch of Amrita conducted an Intra-campus Gaming Contest – “Rival Revenge” from February 24 -26, 2015 to explore the power of intergenerational play. The students of all branches within Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore campus had participated.

The gaming event in total had 6 games namely BLUR, NFS MOST WANTED, CALL OF DUTY MW3, COUNTER STRIKE 1.6 , DOTA 1, and FIFA 14 categorized as racing, shooting, strategy and sport games. NFS and FIFA 14 are individual events and the other four events are team events with five students per team. There were 24 and 80 participants for NFS and FIFA14 game events respectively. Around 15 teams per event have participated in other four events. Three basic qualifying rounds have been conducted to filter the students to next level (semi final) for the all the six events on knock out basis. In the semi finals, each game had the respective fixtures to promote the participants for finals.

For finals, NFS and FIFA14 events had 4 participants each and the TEAM events had two teams. The winners and runners are awarded with certificates and cash prizes.

Code Wars and Techno-Plan Contest

The CSI Student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore organized a set of events between October 28, 2013 and November 06, 2013. The events comprised of a Techno- Plan contest and a Code Wars contest. The Code Wars contest was a 3 day event comprising of 3 rounds. The first round was an Output and Logical Deduction round which had 90 teams. The teams that raised a score of above 6/15 were then shortlisted to the next round. There were 35 teams who fought it out in a battle for the logical and the inspirational part of the competition. This round was based on a program called SCRATCH by MIT that actually test the logic and the innovational side of the contest. The final round was programming round. The second event, Techno- Plan had its initial enthusiasm, and the third year was brimming with ideas. The shortlisted teams presented their plan in front of a judging panel. U. M. Ramya, CSI SBC of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore distributed cash prize of worth Rs.1, 000 to the winners. We had all the required support from Prof. K. Gangadharan, Chairman -IT, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore Campus and Mr. Prashant R.Nair, State Student Coordinator (SSC), CSI.

Algorithm Development, Debugging and Coding Contests

The CSI Student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore has conducted a series of contests exclusively for first year B.Tech students namely Algorithm Development contest, Debugging contest and Coding contest to test the most essential part of programming. i.e. to test the Student’s ability to code and to find out the bugs in the code. Three of the contests were held as a series of events in the first weeks of September, October and November, 2014 respectively.

For Algorithm development contest, 10 toppers were short listed from each class and altogether 59 out of 80 students participated in the finals. Three students were selected as winners. In Debugging contest, top 10 students were short listed from each section and altogether 90 students participated in the finals. Out of the 90, 5 students were shortlisted as winners. In Coding contest, 6 top coders were short listed from each section and altogether 54 students participated in the finals. Out of the 54, 5 students successfully completed the finals with full output and 7 students completed with partial output.

The winners of all the events were awarded with an appreciation certificate. We had all the required support from Dr. Latha Parameswaran, Chairperson - CSE, Amrita Vishwa  Vidyapeetham and Prof. Prashant R.Nair, CSI Regional Student Coordinator (RSC), Region 7, CSI.
