CSI Regional Student Convention (RSC) for Region 7
Mr. Satish Babu, President of CSI and President, InApp Technologies, Technopark, Trivandrum inaugurated the CSI Regional Student Convention (RSC) for Region 7 organized by the Computer Society of India (CSI) Coimbatore Chapter at Amrita University, Coimbatore on February 17, 2011. Training Program on NS2 simulator
The CSI student branch and IETE student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore campus has organized a three day training program on NS2 simulator on August 14-16, 2014. The program was handled by Dr. Mohit P. Anokha 2015 – The 5th edition of Amrita University’s annual national student technical festival, “ANOKHA 2015” was held from 5th to 7th March, 2015 at the Coimbatore campus of Amrita University. This has emerged as one of the best engineering festivals in India. Over 7000 students attended from over 350 universities all over India. Student Participants from partner universities in USA and Europe like University of New Mexico; Télécom Ecole de Management, Evry, France; Uppsala University etc and leading institutions in India like all IITs, BITS Pilani, NITs and IIITs.

Armageddon gaming event series with Counter Strike 1.6, FIFA 14
Anokha 2014– The 4th edition of Amrita University’s annual national student technical festival, ANOKHA 2014 was held from March 20-22, 2014 at the Coimbatore campus of Amrita University. This has emerged as one of the best engineering festivals in India. Over 7000 students attended from over 300 universities all over India.
CSI Student Branch organized the following technical events for the techfest:
- PD3 – Product design and development
- E-CRAZE - This event will test how far you can understand a given application and create a code for that same application with all the features in it
- BUG ARENA - Debugging
- TECHNO CRACK - an event consisting of series of rounds testing the participants of their lateral thinking skills, coding etc.
- CODE HUNT - Are you a programmer? You think you think out of the box? Well here is your chance to prove it.
- BACK TO THE QUESTIONABLE FUTURE - Qui
- HEPTATHLON - An event testing the skills of an efficient programmer.

Competitions/ Contests for Student Members
Rival Revenge - Gaming Contest
Computer Society of India - Student Branch of Amrita conducted an Intra-campus Gaming Contest – “Rival Revenge” from February 24 -26, 2015 to explore the power of intergenerational play. The students of all branches within Amrita University Coimbatore campus had participated.
The gaming event in total had 6 games namely BLUR, NFS MOST WANTED, CALL OF DUTY MW3, COUNTER STRIKE 1.6 , DOTA 1, and FIFA 14 categorized as racing, shooting, strategy and sport games. NFS and FIFA 14 are individual events and the other four events are team events with five students per team. There were 24 and 80 participants for NFS and FIFA14 game events respectively. Around 15 teams per event have participated in other four events. Three basic qualifying rounds have been conducted to filter the students to next level (semi final) for the all the six events on knock out basis. In the semi finals, each game had the respective fixtures to promote the participants for finals.
For finals, NFS and FIFA14 events had 4 participants each and the TEAM events had two teams. The winners and runners are awarded with certificates and cash prizes.
Code Wars and Techno-Plan Contest
The CSI Student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore organized a set of events between October 28, 2013 and November 06, 2013. The events comprised of a Techno- Plan contest and a Code Wars contest. The Code Wars contest was a 3 day event comprising of 3 rounds. The first round was an Output and Logical Deduction round which had 90 teams. The teams that raised a score of above 6/15 were then shortlisted to the next round. There were 35 teams who fought it out in a battle for the logical and the inspirational part of the competition. This round was based on a program called SCRATCH by MIT that actually test the logic and the innovational side of the contest. The final round was programming round. The second event, Techno- Plan had its initial enthusiasm, and the third year was brimming with ideas. The shortlisted teams presented their plan in front of a judging panel. U. M. Ramya, CSI SBC of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore distributed cash prize of worth Rs.1, 000 to the winners. We had all the required support from Prof. K. Gangadharan, Chairman -IT, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore Campus and Mr. Prashant R.Nair, State Student Coordinator (SSC), CSI.
Algorithm Development, Debugging and Coding Contests
The CSI Student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore has conducted a series of contests exclusively for first year B.Tech students namely Algorithm Development contest, Debugging contest and Coding contest to test the most essential part of programming. i.e. to test the Student’s ability to code and to find out the bugs in the code. Three of the contests were held as a series of events in the first weeks of September, October and November, 2014 respectively.
For Algorithm development contest, 10 toppers were short listed from each class and altogether 59 out of 80 students participated in the finals. Three students were selected as winners. In Debugging contest, top 10 students were short listed from each section and altogether 90 students participated in the finals. Out of the 90, 5 students were shortlisted as winners. In Coding contest, 6 top coders were short listed from each section and altogether 54 students participated in the finals. Out of the 54, 5 students successfully completed the finals with full output and 7 students completed with partial output.
The winners of all the events were awarded with an appreciation certificate. We had all the required support from Dr. Latha Parameswaran, Chairperson - CSE, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Prof. Prashant R.Nair, CSI Regional Student Coordinator (RSC), Region 7, CSI.
