Dr Kamini Walia is a microbiologist and public health expert. She completed her PhD from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, in 1998 and obtained a Master’s in Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University in 2005. Dr Walia is currently leading the setting up of the Antimicrobial Surveillance Network of ICMR and coordinating activities of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for the entire country. This network is now recognized nationally and internationally and has led to the development of collaborative programs with Research Council Norway, NIH, USA and CDC, USA. She is recipient of ICMR’s Shakuntala Amir Chand Award and the Indian National Science Academy’s Young Scientist Award.
