The past editions of Amrita TBI Pitchfest received a massive support from startups, investors, partners, experts and enthusiasts. Amrita TBI Pitchfest 2017 was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. N Manjula IAS, Director ITBT & Tourism- Govt of Karnataka in the presence of Shri. Hemal Patel – Senior Vice President -Sophos, Shri. Chinnu Senthil kumar – Exfinity Ventures, Br. Dhanraj – Director – Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bangalore Campus and Dr. Krishnashree Achuthan – CEO, Amrita TBI.
The mega event was addressed by Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, Government of India through video conference. Amrita TBI Pitchfest, a unique initiative by Amrita TBI is supported by Govt. of India and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, to find the most promising startups in India. In 2017, Amrita TBI won the National Award for the Best Technology Business Incubator in India that was conferred by the President of India.

Amrita TBI PitchFest event will be held over two days (28th and 29th January 2017) at the Bangalore campus of Amrita University. On Day-1, the top 30 selected startups will go through a half-day mentorship program followed by selection of the top startups. On Day-2, the top startups will pitch in front of an elite panel of investors and C-level executives:
Top three contenders will be announced and will qualify for a total seed investment of USD 200,000 by Amrita TBI..
Amrita TBI will complete the required due-diligence on the finalists and provide seed investments between INR 1 Lakh and 20 Lakhs for qualified startups. Selected startups will receive mentorship which is a critical factor for their success. We also provide infrastructure and incubation services at very low cost.

Dr. Anand Anandkumar serves as the Managing Director and Chairman of the BOD of the India operations of Cellworks, He is primarily responsible for building up the world wide Business Development and External Alliances footprint for Cellworks. In addition Anandkumar is driving the entry of Cellworks into Industrial Biotransformation and Green Chemistry. Before joining Cellworks, Anandkumar was the founding Managing Director of the India operations of Magma Design Automation, where he was responsible for setting up and driving many aspects of the Operations including RD, Product Engineering, Business Development and links to Government/Academia.

The PitchFest contest provides you a perfect platform to bring your idea to life. You get the opportunity to meet venture capitalists, CEOs and top level C-level executives from around the world who can provide instant feedback to your ideas and business plans. You also have the opportunity to later network with these executives for further guidance. Further the selected winners qualify to win seed investments in the range of INR 1 Lakh to 50 Lakhs. Startups that receive the seed investment will receive mentorship which is a critical factor for their success. Also provided are infrastructure and incubation services at very low cost, important factors to reduce initial startup expenses.

Amrita TBI will complete the required due-diligence on the three finalists and provide seed investments between INR 1 Lakh and 50 Lakhs for qualified startups. Total funding outlay for all three startups will be Rs. 135 Lakhs(approx USD $200,000). Funding is provided in the format of loan and/or equity.
All incubated startups will be provided mentorship and guidance throughout their incubation period at Amrita TBI.
The Amrita Technology Business Incubator (TBI) has committed a total of $120,000 in seed funding for four promising start-ups. These were shortlisted out of 702 startups from all over India at the PitchFest organized from January 9-10, 2016, at the Bengaluru campus of Amrita University. The winning startups are Preksh Innovations (ecommerce), B2BSphere (ecommerce), Meladath Auto Components, and MaaxMarket (social media marketing).
"As PM Modi prepares to unveil his ambitious ‘Startup India Standup India’ action plan, Amrita TBI, an incubator supported by the Government of India and Amrita University, is doing its part by organizing this PitchFest every year. Amrita TBI has grown to be amongst the top-five most prolific start-up incubators due to our commitment to promote ground-up innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. With 29 incubated startups and 0% loss in investments, Amrita TBI is committed to providing the right ecosystem and mentor support for its incubates," said Dr. Krishnashree Achuthan, CEO of Amrita TBI.
Initially, Amrita TBI had planned for a total seed investment outlay of USD 100,000 for the Top-3 startups at the PitchFest. During the final review, however, the quality of the top startups was found to be exceptional. The Amrita TBI review board then decided to increase the outlay to USD 120,000 and provide funding to top four startups instead of three.
The Amrita TBI PitchFest, which is being held since 2012, was organized this year in partnership with the Government of India, NASSCOM 10K, Indian Angel Network and FreshersWorld. It attracted a total of 702 startup applications from all over India, with product/service offerings spanning more than 25 areas, including IT, IT services, mobile apps, advertising/media, agriculture, financial services, and social media. The maximum number of applications was received from Bengaluru, followed by Mumbai, Kerala and Delhi.
Out of the startups which applied, the top-30 startups were shortlisted and invited to pitch on Day-1 of the PitchFest. The top-13 startups were shortlisted for Day-2. Finally, the top-4 startups were selected for funding. Amrita TBI also received 80 applications for co-working space at its startup facilities in Bengaluru and Kollam.
Amrita TBI conducted 'Ideas for Future contest' for college girls during the second edition of the International Conference on Women in Computing organized in the Coimbatore campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, during January 9-11, 2013.
About 120 students participated in this event. A group discussion on the topic '16 hour power cuts in Tamil Nadu' was conducted.
The top 30 students were selected and were asked to form 10 teams with 3 members each for the final round. In this round, the teams were provided a list of problems in the areas of Energy, Water and Environment. Each team had to select a problem, define the problem, provide three solutions and then select one solution and justify their choice.
The top three teams where chosen on various criteria including innovative thinking.The first prize was shared by Nehru Institute of Engineering Technology and Dr. GRD college of science. The second and third prizes were awarded to Amrita School of Engineering, Ettimadai and K.S.R.College of Engineering respectively.
