Shyam Diwakar is an assistant professor at the School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and currently focusses on mathematical modeling in computational biology and biophysics of computation. He holds a Ph.D. in computational sciences from University of Milan, Italy while a bachelors degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and a postgraduate diploma in Bioinformatics from Bharathiar University, India.His doctoral thesis work was focused on mathematical modeling of cerebellar granule neurons and their network properties. He worked on computational neuroscience as a postdoctoral researcher at the department of General Physiology, University of Pavia, Italy. His postdoctoral research was supported by INGENIO grant from Regione Lombardia and SENSOPAC grant from EU framework 7.
Before his doctoral studies, he worked for two years as a research assistant at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, on machine learning and intelligence and has co-authored a book titled “Insights into data mining” which has been published by Prentice Hall, PHI, December 2005. He has also published a book on computational neuroscience in 2011. He is a life member at the Indian academy of Neurosciences and professional member of the IEEE and the International Society of Neurochemistry.
