‘Aarohan’, the annual Amrita science fest is an initiative of Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, to foster a bond between an institution of higher education and schools. Amrita has successfully hosted Aarohan for seven consecutive years and the eighth edition is scheduled on 10th and 11th November, 2016. The two day science fest is organized for students of standard VIII, IX, X, XI and XII, and comprises of events like ‘Olympiad’, ‘Rickety Links’, ‘iQ Tech Quiz’, ‘Aashubhashan’, ‘Mathementum Contour’, ‘Robo Relay’, ‘TechWizz’ etc.
Each event is designed to bring out technical knowledge and creativity of the participants. ‘Olympiad’ is an event to test knowledge in Basic Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science through multiple choice questions. ‘Tech-Lock Holmes’ involves critical thinking, situational awareness and problem solving skills. ‘iQ Tech Quiz’ is a quizzing event that tests how abreast students are of the latest developments in the field of science and technology. ‘Castle Wars’, allows the participants to design and defend their arenas using science and strategy. ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ is based on International Space Settlement Designing, wherein the participants are required to make a detailed presentation covering different aspects of terra-forming of a certain celestial object. ‘Aashubhashan’ is a team event that assesses subject knowledge and presentation skills by way of a succinct power point presentation. ‘Robo Relay’, ‘Tech Wizz’, 'Rickety Links', 'Bot Wars' and ‘Wall-E’ are other events that evaluate technical ability and presence of mind of the participants. The winners are awarded with certificates and cash prizes worth a total of INR 4 lakhs.
Young minds are invited to avail this opportunity to showcase their knowledge in the field of Science and Technology. The previous edition witnessed an overwhelming response from 25 schools and more than 800 participants. The 2015 rolling trophy was bagged by Sri Chaitanya P.U. College, Koramangala Bengaluru, for winning the highest number of prizes.
Aarohan not only opens its doors to school students for them to explore the world of engineering through various competitions, but also gives them a glimpse of the ever evolving outside world through ‘Pradarshan', the Tech Exhibition, ‘Glider Workshop’ and 'MathExpo', which are organized by the host institution. With a platform set to enhance and exhibit technical knowledge, ‘Aarohan’ welcomes budding engineering minds to participate in this eventful fest and 'reach out to the stars'.
