Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore played host to the continents best brains as they battled it out on stage at the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest 2015, Asia Amritapuri Multisite Regionals.
The International Collegiate Programming Contest is one of the most coveted challenges in the field of programming, characterised by a high standard of problems and a truly inspiring display of teamwork culminating in a race against time. Students of reputed institutions like IIT, NIT, CMI and BITS to name a few enjoyed ASE-B’s hospitality during this event which spanned over two days.
The event commenced with 73 team registrations followed by an inaugural ceremony presented by Paarul Sukanya (3rd CSE) and Ashwini Nayak (1st CSE). The Chief Guest, Mr Shankara Narayan, Senior Engineering Architect,CISCO presided over this event alongside Br. Dhanraj Swamy, Director, ASE-B, Dr. Rakesh S. G., Associate Dean, ASE-B and Dr. T. S. B. Sudarshan, Chair, Dept of Computer Science Engineering. Nirmal and Chanakya, members of CodeChef, the sponsors were also felicitated. The dignitaries were invited to light the lamp and welcomed by Dr. T. S. B. Sudarshan, Chair, Dept of CSE. Addresses by the Director, the Associate Dean, the Chief Guest and Mr. Rajesh, Event Coordinator, ASE-B gave the audience an interesting insight into ICPC, its history and the highlights of the latest edition filled with thought provoking titbits of advice. A special session, spearheaded by Mr. Dinesh Garg, IBM, attained appreciation from the audience. A banquet dinner was held that night which catered to connoisseurs of different cuisines.
The competition glimpsed an influx of diversity in the prepared participants who confidently entered the contest arena. ICPC credits simplicity and speed. A balloon management section was employed that proudly exhibited balloons on the teams’ desks which attained a correct answer. The atmosphere was inviting and friendly even as contestants scrambled to solve the complex problems.
An elaborate discussion of prevalent problems was held prior to the valedictory ceremony which commemorated the victory of the Top 10 from amongst 313 teams that competed at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amritapuri, Coimbatore and Bangalore campuses). A live streaming of talks by Bill Poucher, Director, ICPC and Jeff Denahoo, Executive Director, ICPC preceded the awaited announcement of finalists for the World Finals of ICPC 2015.
24 contestants and 2 members of faculty later embarked upon an exciting excursion organised by ASE-B for the participants of ICPC 2015 to Mysore and visited famous locations like the Mysore Palace.All in all, it was an extremely brainstorming and highly anticipated event hosted by the Amrita Bangalore campus and FACE is extremely grateful to have contributed in making this a huge success!
