National Workshop on Biomedical Signal Acquisition & Conditioning- BiSAC 2015
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore Campus will organize a three day national level workshop on Biomedical Signal Acquisition and Conditioning- BiSAC from December 17-19, 2015.
Last date of Registration: November 30, 2015
Intimation of Selection: December 1, 2015
The workshop is targeted at those who are actively engaged in/ planning to take up research in the area of biomedical instrumentation. Since seats are limited, it has been decided to limit eligibility to those satisfying one of the criteria given below:
- Faculty members from AICTE recognised Institutions.
- Research Scholars, from recognised Institutions, working in this area.
- Research Associates / Fellows, working/interesed in the field of Biomedical Engineering.
- Students of recognised Post Graduate Programs, from affiliated Institutions.
Relevance of Workshop
Biomedical signal acquisition has greatly advanced with the development of technology. It helps the doctors to have easy access to the required biological signals. Despite the widespread use of biomedical instrumentation systems in healthcare and research, many practical difficulties are still encountered in the biomedical signal acquisition and conditioning. Accessibility of the signals, low amplitude and frequency of the signal, artifacts and interference from other physiological signals, noise and patient safety are a few of the difficulties that attract the attention of researchers. The challenge lies in the fact that the characteristics of the problems and hence the solutions are unique to the type of signal acquired. It is required to have a strong collaboration between physicians and engineers for reliable and useful acquisition of biomedical signals.
The main objective of the workshop is to provide the participants an insight to the various types of signals acquired, the causes for some of the possible problems and probable solutions for the same. It will benefit faculty as well as research scholars working in this field to update their skills and knowledge and to stay abreast of the recent developments in the field of biomedical instrumentation. The panels of speakers include eminent researchers, resource persons from the industry and medical profession who will share their expertise in the relevant areas and project their perspectives.
The program focuses on the major challenges that are faced in the design and development of electronic systems for proper acquisition of the signal. The workshop gives a brief overview of the various biomedical signals and sensors, discusses various noise that corrupt the signals and also explores various signal conditioning circuits. To make the program more effective, interactive lab sessions have been included with hands on training on design and development of signal conditioning circuits which includes design and development of instrumentation amplifiers and filters.
