The INSPIRE SCIENCE CAMP 2012 for students of classes XI & XII was conducted from 18 - 22 May, 2012 by the Amrita Center for Research in Analytics & Technologies for Education (AmritaCREATE), and hosted for the first time at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, Amritapuri.  The camp was sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt of India.  Students who were toppers in science subjects were given the opportunity to learn from and interact with eminent scientists and mentors through lectures, projects, competitions and lab visits.

Objective of the Camp:

The objective of the camp was to communicate to the students the excitement of pursuing an education in science and attract them to the study science at an early age, thus helping to build a strong base for the expansion of the science and technology system of our country.

Process of Invitation:

According to the guidelines set by DST, those students who obtained a CGPA of A+ (CBSE) / 94% (ICSE) / 77% (Kerala Board) in class X and are pursuing science in their Higher Secondary education in CBSE / ICSE /Kerala Board affiliated schools could participate. The participation was limited to the first 350 registrants.


To register for the camp, the application form signed by the Principal along with an attested copy of the Class X mark/grade sheet had to be sent on or before March 30, 2012. Invitations were sent out via e-mails or over the phone to the principals of each school. Being funded by the DST INSPIRE programme, the camp was free for students.

The morning session started with a talk by Dr.C.O.Sreekala, the senior faculty of Department of Physics, Amrita School of Biotechnology.
