The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, conducted a Faculty Development Program from Electric Vehicles on March 23 – 24, 2019.

The main objective of the FDP was to introduce advanced academic research as well as industry practices in the field of electric vehicle development to amrita faculty and PhD/PG students. Around 60 participants were attended the FDP. The sessions were handled by industrial experts from L&T, Bosch, ABB, Linkwell and academic experts from IIT Delhi, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, has received a research grant from DHI, Government of India, to develop communication infrastructure in the electric vehicle supply equipment. The project is on EV charging components development and is led by IIT Delhi and partnered Thapar University and Greenmile, an EV industry. Two other industries Linkwell, Hyderabad and Vexcube. Palakkad collaborate with Dept. of EEE, Amrita in the task. This background has prompted in conducting the FDP at Amrita to expose Amrita faculty members, who are presently involved in or aspiring to be in, teaching and research of EV related topics.

The day one began with an introductory talk on the EV Indian Scenario by Dr. K. K. Sasi (Professor, Dept. of EEE, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore), Mr. Abilash E. T. Nair from ABB discussed about the EV Charger. Dr. Prajof P., L&T and Mr. Sarath T. V., (Asst. Professor, Dept. of EEE, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore) focussed on BMS and communication.

Day two began with a talk by Induistry resource person Mr. Prasanth Pathiyil, from BOSCH. This was followed by EV Charger and its Control Perspective by Dr. Sukumar Mishra, Professor, IIT Delhi. Energy Measurement and Management aspects were discussed by: Dr. B. V. Rao, Vice President (R&D), Linkwell, Hyderabad, EV Communication aspects was discussed by Mr. Nithin S. (Asst. Professor, Dept. of EEE, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore). The session concluded by a discussion on EV in Academics followed by Valediction.
