The Android Security Workshop was organized at Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore from December 18-19, 2014. The objectives of the workshop were to facilitate the participants to enrich their knowledge in an Android operating system and increase their talent for experimenting security exploits in a real Android device, not in emulators. A total of 70 participants from various universities, industry and government organizations like SETS Chennai, Air force attended the workshop. This hands on workshop extended across two days with four hour sessions per day.
The opening ceremony began by the welcome address by Professor M. Sethumadhavan, Head, TIFAC-CORE in Cyber Security. He welcomed Professor Prabhaker Mateti, Wright State University, USA, who is a well known expert in Android Security. He pointed about the strength of TIFAC-CORE in Cyber Security Centre both in crypto as well as in systems level. All the technical sessions were led by Professor Mateti and assisted by Nikhil George, Jamsheed K., Asish K.S., Priyanka S., Aiyyappan P.S., Yadu K. and Sreenitha N. students of M. Tech TIFAC-CORE Cyber Security batch 2013-2015. Mr. Suresh Raju Pilli from L & T Technology Services, Mr. Vipin Pavithran from Amrita Centre for Cyber Security Systems & Networks Amritapuri, Ms. Jevitha K. P. and Mr.Praveen K., Assistant Professors of TIFAC-CORE in Cyber Security, Coimbatore also joined the team with Professor Mateti. The topics covered include talks and hands on experiments on Android application development, Rooting, ARP poisoning and reversing of .apk files.
