One of the biggest IEEE events in India, IEEE All India Student Congress (AISC) 2013 kicked off at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus on 3 October, 2013 with a colorful inaugural function. The congress went on till 6 October, 2013. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore had been selected to host this event by IEEE India Council and IEEE Madras Section from 750 plus IEEE student branches in premier universities and colleges in India including IITs. Concurrent events include IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Power & Energy Society Student Congresses, which was held on 6 October, 2013. 330 IEEE student members from 80 premier colleges and universities across India are attending the proceedings.
Dr. M. Ponnavaiko, Chairman, IEEE India Council and Vice-Chancellor of SRM University inaugurated the congress. Dr. C. R. Muthukrishnan, Former Deputy Director of IIT Madras was the guest of honor. Dr. S. Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham presided over the inaugural function. Dr. M.P. Chandrasekharan, Dean-Engineering, AMRITA; Dr. Preeti Bajaj, Vice-Chair (Student Activities), IEEE India Council and Mr. T.S. Rangarajan, Chairman, IEEE Madras Section offered felicitations. Prof. K. Gangadharan, Chairman-IT welcomed the gathering. Some of the speakers who enlightened the congress included Mr. Harish Mysore, Director, IEEE India Operations; Mr. Vineeth Vijayaraghavan, Founder & Editor, Panchabuta; Ms. Priya Kuber, Managing Director, Arduino India; Mr. B. Damodaran, Consultant, Randstad India Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Vijay Anand, CEO, The Startup Center.
The congress featured special sessions on Entrepreneurship, Career Opportunities and Women in Engineering in addition to IEEE Vision, Organization, Activities, Awards, Societies, Standards, Best Practices and Administration. Innovative Projects Showcase featured projects and demos in line with the vision of IEEE of Advancing Technology for Humanity.
