Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore was chosen as one of the remote centers for hosting 10 days workshop on ‘Cyber Security’, under the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India) conducted from July 10- 20, 2014.

The department of Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering took up the responsibility and executed it successfully with technical assistance from ICTS group and facility department.

Faculty members from various Engineering colleges within the state and outside  of Karnataka attended the workshop. The lectures were transmitted in distance education mode using the AVIEW technology through internet. The workshop was coordinated  by Prof. Deepak Phatak, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay.  The course coordinators were Prof. Bernard L. Menezes and Prof. G. Sivakumar, from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay and IIT Chennai respectively.

The objective of the workshop was to provide training to the participants on teaching pedagogy to make extensive use of technology for effective teaching methodology for Cyber Security using examples and highlighted the points that need to be stressed while teaching the students. The workshop emphasized the topics like Secret Key Cryptography, Public Key Cryptography, Applications of the Crypto Hash, Network Security, Access Control and Firewalls, Software Security, Malware Protection, Intrusion Detection and Prevention, Security Tools – Wireshark, Snort, Metaspoilt, etc.

Quizzes were conducted by IIT Bombay for the participants.  The participants were given the opportunity to have interactive sessions with the faculty at IIT Bombay. The participants also had group assignments during this workshop.
