The Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi organized a two-day national conference onSecurity Monitoring during February 15-16, 2013 in collaboration with the Computer Society of India.
The two-day conference focused on Continuous Security Monitoring as a risk management process facilitated by people and technology to ensure overall ecosystem health, integrity and quality of service.
During the conference, speakers from the industry as well as academia and government presented their challenges and perspectives on using continuous monitoring as an effective way to form a security baseline, detect and report newer threats based on anomalies and establish corrective security controls.
Conference organizers stated that with increased reliance on the internet by individuals, businesses of all sizes and governments, it is imperative that we use tools and techniques to prevent, detect and correct cyber threats in near real-time. They outlined the entire national and global economy now depends on the secure operation of interconnected infrastructure in banking and finance, education, healthcare and power distribution.
Overall nearly 250 delegates participated, including research scholars, undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Conference conveners shared that the general feedback from participants was very good and most felt that the demos and workshops conducted were fairly interactive and instructive.

Technical talks covered topics such as concepts in cryptography, managing a large business network, security aspects with respect to the banking industry, enterprise security monitoring, emerging technologies for mobile security monitoring and malware. There were focused workshops on web applications, internet security and secure application development. These were led by industry professionals from organizations such as eBay India Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore; i-Human India Pvt. Ltd, Chennai and CSC Independent Testing Services.
