About the workshop

Theme: Deep Learning and spectral processing in CVIP

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, is organizing the workshop on Computer Vision and Image processing techniques, NWCVIPT 2017, from March 30, 31 and April 1, 2017. This is the seventh edition in this series. The primary focus of the workshop is to serve as a platform for the convergence of cutting edge areas of fundamental research areas such as quantum inspired approaches, bioinspired computing and deep learning models to design innovative solutions in real world scenario. The workshop aims to identify the key domains in the above field areas and provide promising frameworks for solving challenges in real world scenarios such as Industrial applications, Medical Analysis, Information Security, Text Processing, etc. The analysis and applicability of Deep Learning for Image and Video processing has gained prominence in the recent years. More than 1000 participants have attended and benefited from this workshop in the past six years.

objectives

The objective of this workshop is to explore the concepts and applications of spectral approaches, deep learning with emphasis on Image/Video Processing; to provide hands-on training on CVIP and deep learning tools; to create a community of researchers working in areas related to CVIP and DL; to develop algorithms and create innovative products that are socially relevant.

Dr. Karthikeyan Vaiapury is a Research Scientist at TCS Innovation Labs, Tata Consultancy Services Limited. Prior to joining TCS, he worked as senior R&D Software Engineer at Samsung R&D Institute (SERI), Staines, United Kingdom. He received his PhD from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), London. He specializes on vision attention based analytics, big data analytics, saliency, machine learning, cognitive science, industrial level application analysis, multimedia systems and applications, model based safety analysis, 3D vision synthesis and analysis.

Principal Scientist and Head of TCS Innovation Labs

Dr. Balamuralidhar P graduated with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Kerala University in the year 1985. He completed his Masters and obtained an M.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1987. He received his PhD in Cognitive Wireless Communications from Aalborg University, Denmark in 2013. His research interests are in the areas Cyber Physical Systems, Sensor Informatics Cognitive Wireless Communications & Networks, Intelligent Embedded
Systems.

Mr. T. S. Rangarajan (Ranga) is a Principal Consultant, currently working as an Enterprise Architect for nextgen enterprise solution for TCS. Before this assignment, he was heading the RFID Solutions practice at Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. Ranga has been with TCS Ltd for the past 21 years. Earlier he was the Retail Practice head of TCS based at New York. He has worked on a large number of consulting engagements spanning manufacturing and service sectors. Ranga has been an IEEE member for 21 years and is currently a Vice Chairman of IEEE Madras Section. He is also a Certified Management Consultant, a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of India (IMCI) and an elected executive council member of IMCI.

Dr. T. Ravindra Babu,
Principal Data Scientist with Flipkart Internet Pvt Ltd.

Dr. T. Ravindra Babu is currently working as Principal Data Scientist with Flipkart Internet Private Limited. He had earlier worked with Infosys Research and Indian Space Research Organization. He received M.Sc.(Engg) and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His areas of research interest include data mining, large data clustering and classification, compression schemes for mining large datasets, image processing, genetic algorithms, text processing and spacecraft orbital dynamics. He has publications and patents in these areas.

 

Mr. B Gopala Krishna,
Dy. Director, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad

Shri. B Gopala Krishna is the Deputy Director, Data Processing, Products, Archival and Web Applications Area (DPPA and WA). He received M.Sc.Tech. (Electronics) degree from Andhra Univesity, Visakhapatnam, India, in 1981 and the M.Tech. degree in electronics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1984, with a specialization in Satellite Communications and Remote Sensing. His research interests include digital photogrammetry and mapping, geometrical data processing for remotely sensed data, planetary data processing, image mosaicing, stereo image analysis, and pattern matching.

Ms. P. K. Selvi,
Scientist-C, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Ministry of Environment, New Delhi

Ms. P. K. Selvi is a Scientist 'C' in the Central Pollution Control Board. She had her education from Anna University, Bharathiar University and IGNOU. She has been the incharge of Environmental Pollution Control Projects - Vehicular Noise Pollution Control, revision of guidelines on Greenbelt, Mercury Management in Fluorescent Lamp Sector, Mobile Tower related issues etc. She has co-authored a lot of papers published in International journals like Chemosphere.

 

Dr. Jayanthi Sivaswamy,
Dean (Academics) and Professor, IIIT Hyderabad

Dr. Jayanthi Sivaswamy is the Dean (Academics) and Professor at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad. She received her doctorate degree from Syracuse University, New York. Her research interests include Image processing, medical image analysis and biological vision. She has published her work in more than 10 reputed international journals, numerous international conferences and has co-authored two books of which one is on Hexagonal Image Processing.

Dr. Ramanathan Muthuganapathy,
Associate Professor, Department of Engineering Design, Â IIT Madras

Dr. Ramanathan is currently an associate professor in the department of Engineering design at IIT Madras. He joined IIT Madras as an assistant professor in the department of Engineering design in Aug 2008. Prior to joining IIT Madras, he was in Mechanical Engineering, Purdue university, USA, for his post-doctoral research. He also worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the department of computer science, Technion, Israel. He did his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, in the field of geometric modeling and CAD. His primary research interests are in the field of geometric/solid modeling and computational geometry.

Associate Professor, Computational and Data Sciences, Indian Institute of Science

Dr. R. Venkatesh Babu is an associate professor in Computational and Data Sciences (CDS), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He received his doctorate degree from the Dept. of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research interests span signal processing, compression, machine vision, image/video processing, pattern recognition and multimedia. Some specific problems in his domain of interest are compressed domain video analysis/processing, video surveillance, visual tracking, event detection, object-based video retrieval and image/video quality assessment.

Associate Professor, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University at Albany

Dr. Pradeep. K. Atrey is the Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Program and Co-Director of Albany Lab for Privacy and Security (ALPS) in the Department of Computer Science, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY). His research interests span Multimedia surveillance for homeland security, privacy issues in multimedia surveillance systems, encrypted domain processing of big multimedia data over cloud in applications such as surveillance and medical image rendering, privacy-aware novel architectures for and large data analysis in online social networks, multimedia data security and forensics and multimedia data mining.

 

Mr. Chetan Nadiger,
Lead Engineer - Machine Learning, Intel corporation, Bangalore.

Chetan currently works as a Lead Engineer - Machine Learning with Intel corporation, Bangalore. He has completed MS by Research from International Institute of Information Technology, Pune in 2008 and has been working professionally for about 9 years now. Right from his masters, he was intrigued by machine learning and its thought lines. His major work in ML is in computer vision domain, and he has hands-on experience on topics like Object classification, Object detection, Image segmentation, and more recently in Deep Learning. He has worked in Automotive, Surveillance, and Mobile application areas. His current focus areas are Virtual Reality, Mixed reality and Smart Homes. He has published 3 papers and has 2 patents. He is passionate about machine learning and believes it is going to have a huge impact on traditional business models and society in general.

Dr. Arcot Sowmya,
University of New South Wales, Australia.

Dr. Arcot Sowmya is Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales. She obtained her PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1992. Dr Sowmya's research is in two areas: image analysis and recognition, and software engineering. The first area focuses on segmentation and classification of images, with techniques drawn from machine learning, pattern recognition and statistical data analysis. The second area of interest focuses on formal methods of specification, verification and design of real-time, reactive and distributed systems.

 

Dr. Swapna Agarwal,

Dr. Swapna Agarwal is working at Innovation Lab, Tata Consultancy Services, Kolkata. She has done PhD (Computer Science) from Indian Statistical Institute (an institute of national importance), Kolkata, India. She has attained bachelor degree in computer science (rank: 1st in the university) from Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women's College (NAAC accredited A institute), Vidyasagar University, Midnapore and master degree in computer science (rank: 2nd in the university) from Visvabharati University (a central university). Mr. Srikanth Sridar is a Computer Vision developer and is currently working with 1000Lookz.com on Deep learning applications in Image Processing.His areas of interest includes Computer Vision,Machine Learning,Deep Learning techniques for Images and OCR.He was guided by Professor K.R.Ramakrishnan of IISc on the Project "Circuit Recognition Using Netlist".Currently he is working on head pose estimation and related applications like virtual try-on for eyewear.
