A one-day National Workshop on Image Processing and Visual Media Techniques was organized by the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysore on April 12, 2014.
“With the 12th 5-year plan laying emphasis on research, development and innovation, we need to work on the emerging areas like Image Processing and Visual Media” – observed Dr B G Sangameshwara, Joint Director-Technical, JSS Institutions. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the National Level Workshop.
Mr. Nagarajan Srinivasan, Vice President, Infosys Technologies Ltd. Mysore, the Guest of Honour on the occasion, gave an overview on what the Visual Media industry means to India. Tracing the phenomenal growth of IT industry in the last two decades, he felt it is now important for India to produce exportable commodities and services and opined visual media is one such industry which is fulfilling this need.
The workshop through its two technical sessions provided insights into the areas of image processing and visual media techniques and the resource persons Dr. Kumar Rajamani, Architect Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions, Bangalore and Mr Harikrishnan D, Assistant Professor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi campus, demonstrated the useful tools to the delegates. Afternoon session conducted by Mr Sharath, Faculty, MIT provided a hands on experience on MATLAB programming which is a high level language extensively used to perform numerical computation on images, visualization and application development.
Over 150 delegates comprising research scholars, students, academicians and other professional attended the workshop. The Principal, Prof Vidya Pai delivered the welcome address. Mrs Shobharani, Faculty, Dept of CS briefed the objectives and purpose of the Workshop. Br. Sunil Dharmapal, Director and Br Venugopal, Correspondent, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysore campus graced the occasion.
