Amrita School of Pharmacy organized a two-day programme, “Research Day 2017”, March 17-18, 2017. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. George John, Former Vice Chancellor, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi and former scientist, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi. Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. D. M. Vasudevan, former Principal, Amrita School of Medicine; Dr. M. K. Unnikrishnan, Professor, Manipal University and Dr. Sabitha M., Principal, Amrita School of Pharmacy, were also present.

Scientific sessions, including plenary lectures, keynote addresses by various expert professionals and oral presentations by students and off college delegates were conducted simultaneously under the 4 major disciplines of pharmacy. The sessions were: Pharmacy Practice with the theme, "Patient Outcome Improvement”; Pharmaceutics with the theme, “Formulation and Development”; Pharmacology with the theme, “Pharmacological Screening” and Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy with the theme, “Phytomedicine and Drug Discovery”. There were poster-presentations by students in all four disciplines which were opened to all participants post lunch on both the days.

The two days were enriched with sessions by a number of renowned speakers such as: Dr. George John, Senior Advisor and former Vice Chancellor, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, former scientist, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi; Dr. Krishnakumar Menon, Associate Professor, Amrita Centre for Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine; Dr. Anvar A.M., Chairman and Managing Director, Punarnava Ayurveda Hospital Pvt. Research day successfully presented more than 60 oral presentations and 171 poster presentations in two days. A total of 170 external delegates from 24 institutions across the country participated in the programme. In addition to the scientific sessions, there were demonstrations of instruments like TEM, cell culture studies, MRI and advanced BP monitoring techniques in animals. Additionally, there was a pharmacology quiz, as well as skit performances on awareness about proper use of drugs, life style modifications and special focus on diabetes.

The two-day programme ended with a valedictory function and prize distribution for winners of oral and poster presentations and the quiz. Dr. Sabitha M., Principal, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Dr. U. Krishnakumar (Director, Amrita Arts & Sciences College, Kochi) and Dr. N. Subramanian (Anna University, Tiruchirappalli) graced the occasion.
