IEEE WIE Symposium 2015 was organized by IEEE India Council WIE-AG in collaboration with IEEE Bangalore Section on the 7th and 8th of November 2015 at Amrita School of Engineering , Bangalore, with the theme ‘Build. Empower. Inspire.’. The conference focused on inspiration, leadership, empowerment and entrepreneurship among women, young professionals and students to pursue and build a career in engineering.
On 7th November 2015, the Amriteshwari Hall at Amrita School of Engineering was filled with energetic and enthusiastic participants from various colleges. At 9 a.m. the inaugural ceremony was held with eminent guests on the dais including Dr. Kamini Rao, Chairman and Medical Director at Milan- the Fertility Center who was the Chief Guest for the symposium; Br. Dhanraj, Director, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru; Dr. Rakesh S.G., Head and Associate Dean at Amrita School of Engineering; Dr. S. Ravi Shankar, Chairperson of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering; Dr. Vijayalatha, Vice Chair of IEEE India Council, Dr.YVS Laxmi, Chairperson of WIE Bangalore section and Dr. Meena Chandawarkar, Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Women’s University, Vijayapur.
The first session of the day was conducted by Ms. Megha Bhagat, India Program Manager, Consulting at Institute of International Education who delivered a lecture on Human Rights. This session was preceded by a talk on Worklife Balance delivered by Dr. Meena Chandawarkar, Vice-chancellor, Karnataka Srate Women’s University, Vijayapur. She enlightened the gathering on how to manage both professional and personal life efficiently. The third speaker for the day was Ms. Pamela Kumar, Vice President, Cloud Computing Innovation Council of India. She delivered a lecture on Cutting Edge Technologies on Cloud Computing.
In parallel to these sessions an event by STAR (Students, Teachers and Research Engineers) program was held in the adjacent Sudhamani Hall wherein 45 students of a government high school of Bangalore were gathered. A Career Counseling session was organized followed up by a team building activity. The winners and all the participants were awarded with prizes.
Post lunch, a team building and networking activity was held among the delegates. It laid down an opportunity for them to mingle around and get to know each other. This session was followed by, Mr. Sudeendra Koushik, Vice Chairman, IEEE Bangalore Section addressed the crowd. He spoke about women in innovation. This was followed by a cultural program where the students of Amrita School of engineering and University Visvesvarayya College of Engineering performed. It was indeed a treat for the eyes and ears.
On 8th November 2015, first session was based on ISEA (Information Security Education and Awareness) was addressed by Ms. Divya M G (PTO, CDAC). It made all the delegates present aware of how the virtual world is becoming all the more entrapping and some of the solutions to tackle all of these botheration were later discussed. This session was followed by team building activity ‘Think, Process, Build’. Session 3 kicked off with Ms. Dixit Pragya as the speaker, a Serial Entrepreneur and an Educationist. Ms. Pragya guided all of us on how to take right career decisions in our lives based on her experimental experience. With all respect for Indian Defense Services in his eyes, Dr. Ravindra Singh Bangari, Visiting Faculty, IIMB, commenced the session 4 on Innovation and Leadership giving examples of true leaders from the defense forces, he not just made all of us proud of Indian Defence Forces but also taught us the true meaning of leadership. Post lunch was the panel discussion with Ms. Jija Hari Singh (Former Director General of Police), Dr. Chitra T. (Functional Safety Consultant, Tech Mahindra) and Dr. Vijayalatha (Vice-chair, WIE-IEEE India Council) as panel members.
In the valedictory session all the delegates were encouraged for their immense support with certificates and all the volunteers from both Amrita School of Engineering and University Visvesvarayya College of Engineering were awarded for making the event a grand success.
