The Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, conducted a two-day workshop on “Embedded Systems Development using ARM embed Platform” on October 28, 2015.
Advances in process technology and ever-increasing demand of smarter, cheaper and power-conscious embedded systems have fuelled the need for better methodologies and tools to design, analyze, implement and deploy such systems. This workshop enhances the understanding of students emphasizing the concepts and design tools for better-embedded systems.
The mbed Microcontroller Board (marketed as the "mbed NXP LPC1768") is based on an NXP microcontroller with an ARM Cortex M3 architecture. It has several interfaces like I/O devices, USB Device, CAN, SPI, I²C and other peripherals.
The mbed software development kit (SDK) provides the mbed C/C++ software platform and tools for creating microcontroller firmware that runs on smart devices. It consists of the core libraries that provide the microcontroller peripheral drivers, networking, RTOS and runtime environment, build tools and test and debug scripts. It has a large number of libraries that support interfacing easily. mbed controller can be programmed online and supports a C/C++ environment.
The workshop introduced the participants to the complex architecture of mbed controller with hands-on exposure to the programming of peripherals and the demonstration of simple applications.
