Workshop on FPGA Implementation for Power Electronic Applications
The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore Campus and Amrita Centre for Research and Development (ACRD) are organizing a two-day hands-on workshop on ‘FPGA Implementation for Power Electronic Applications’ from April 26-27, 2019.
Field programmable gate array (FPGA) provides a path to prototype the required hardware and allow us to reconfigure the hardware. In this decade its applications achieved a phenomenal growth due to the rapid advances in large scale integration technologies. The number of applications in high performance, computing, controls, telecommunications, image and video processing, and consumer electronics has been rising at a very fast pace. Particularly, FPGA applications to power electronic systems are found to be significant and this trend is expected to grow rapidly envisaging the power electronic systems with high switching frequency.
The objective of the workshop is to give more emphasis on FPGA based hardware implementation for power electronic systems with proper mix of theory, hands-on sessions and demos. The workshop is designed for academic professionals, research scholars and PG students who are interested in developing FPGA based power electronic systems.

Role of FPGA in Power Electronic Systems
Introduction to FPGA
Logic Simulation using HDL
Logic Synthesis using HDL
FPGA based PWM generation for Buck Converter
FPGA based Gating Pulse generation for AC-AC converter
Sine wave generation using CORDIC algorithm
FPGA based SPWM
Demonstrations: single phase and three phase inverters, single phase AC-DC converter
